Key players to watch this summer: One of the top players in the Buckeye state with a lot of positive potential is Legacy Christian Academy 2021 Emma Hess, a multi-dimensional big guard who can not only play the guard spot, but can move to the wing and even score at the rim. Excellent handles with a strong floor presence, Emma is a great floor leader who can find the open player, or score out to the three-point line. Runs the floor well and can score in transition. Not afraid of contact and can score on the drive. Leah Butterbaugh is a player who was featured during the state tournament as she blossomed onto the scene with a Waynesville team loaded with high-level seniors. As a sophomore, Leah has seen her game grow tremendously over the past year, and is a serious scoring threat from the perimeter. Smart player with good handles, can control the offense, great range and a threat beyond the arc. Kathleen Ahner is one of the most underrated players in the state of Ohio, but hardly a sleeper. She was a key to the success of her high school team, and if the game is on the line, she needs the ball in her hands. Can use both hands equally strong, great in transition, good midrange and out to a three-point shot. Will explode to the rim and score, or get to the line. Defensively, is a ball hawk and creates turnovers. Ava Lickliter is another kid who gets overlooked a lot because of all the older talent at her high school. Floor general, the quarterback on the floor. She can score from the perimeter, deep range shooter. Can score off the dribble, get to the rim and find the open person. Runs the floor in transition as good as anyone and will be a factor this summer.
2 Sleepers to watch: Gigi Painter comes from another good high school program, and has high energy and is a great teammate. Gets on the floor, is a strong rebounder, and is a good passer. She can shoot when she is open and will guard the bigger players. Does a good job fronting, boxing out and if needed can bring the ball up the floor. Emily Adams is a raw player, but she is getting better as the spring has progressed. A physical player, strong, fast and will get after it. She seems very coachable and has a good work ethic with her hustle.
