Today, I will look at some of the shooting guards who made an impact on me during the day on Saturday. The energy that these players brought was tremendous, and they made things happen with their teams.
Shooting Guards
Brynn Mullet, 5-7, Buckeye State Blast 2021 Red- it didn’t take long for her to catch my attention, as she was all over the floor, and did so many things well. She played like a very smart player who was a great floor leader. Brynn has incredible handles and can score in transition. From her position, she sees the floor very well. Not only can she drain the perimeter shot, including the mid-range out to the 3, she will finish through contact. Comes from a great high school program (Berlin Hiland) and will get even better.
Felesia Ondongo, 5-8, Capital City Comets Fowler- have liked her game for a few years now, she continues to improve. Felesia is an outstanding athlete with solid handles. Not only is she quick, but has the ability to play wither the 1 or 2. Can crash the boards strong, score from the perimeter or finish at the rim. Solid on defensive pressure.
Corina Conley, 6-0, Ohio Elite Purple- this kid just keeps getting better and better everytime I see her play. Phenomenal athlete who can score at the rim with her length, or so what she has really become proficient at… scoring from the perimeter. Her game has changed over the years, and she is very good with a midrange shot, can shoot the three, and slash and score.
Kaylee Darnell, 5-5, South Central Basketball Club- it was the first time I had seen her, and came away impressed with how hard she plays on the floor. Defensively, she did a good job on-ball, and she moved well both latetrally and without the ball. Can shoot from good range, and a competitor.
Alyssa DeAngelo, 5-9, SLAAM Woodson 2020- she is outside the area, but there weren’t many perimeter shooters better than this girl in the entire tournament. Outstanding out to the three, which she is deadly from. Can also pull up and shoot a three in transition. Aggressive to the basket, can score on the drive. Solid defender.
Giselle Johnson, 5-9, SMAC Fitz 10th- enjoyed watching her compete in one of her games. She was a strong aggressive kid who could get to the rim and can score on contact. Not afraid of physical play. Boxes out well, and uses her athleticism as a strength.
Kayla O’Daniel, 5-8, We Got Next 2020- continuing to improve her game. Physical guard who can handle contact and play through it. Not rattled if it gets physical out there. Good handles, and moves well without the ball. Has a high basketball IQ.
