I have looked at the 2022 kids who opened my eyes on Saturday and Sunday in the Steel City, and also listed several of the 2021 players who caught my attention with their tremendous play.
Today I have listed some additional incoming juniors who I think will be players to watch this summer, and heading into the high school season next winter.
Class of 2021 (part 2)
Chloe Callahan, 5-10 Ohio Future 17U Premier Baker: a smart, intelligent player who shows a lot of promise heading into the summer. Very talented kid who can handle the ball under pressure, move well without the ball, and defend. Blue collar hard working kid who continues to get better.
Excellent shooter with good range and can shoot off the dribble.
Katherine Weakley, 5-10, Ohio Future 16U Premier Eifert: loved this kids intensity and desire to be a better player. She really impressed me with her aggressiveness and nose for the ball. Can shoot from anywhere, and is a major threat from the perimeter.
She knows where she needs to be, whether that is to score from the outside, or get to the rim. Great handles, solid intangibles. Active hands defensively.
Malea Bess, 5-7 Team Knockdown Ohio: a kid who can shoot the ball with good handles. Moves well without the ball, and looks to find her open teammates. Anticipates well and handles the ball well under pressure. High basketball IQ and is a solid passer.
Casey Humphrey, 5-3 Team Knockdown Ohio: a kid with a high motor and is an aggressive player. Attacks the basket well, and is a good defender. Excellent handles who looks to push the ball north-south and uptempo. Can get to the foul line with her ability to penetrate. Has the ability to pull up and hit the midrange, just needs to know when to alter her game to fit the needs of the game. A sparkplug.
Mickayla Perdue, 5-8 West Virginia Thunder: this Springfield Ohio guard continues to show why she is one of the best players in the Buckeye state. Not sure anyone has worked as hard in the short off season. She has improved at every facet of her game, as she has gotten better with her shooting, her handles, finishing and has increased her range. She has a great basketball IQ and not only can she score in bunches, but her competitive spirit sets her apart.
Strong around the rim and can finish with contact. Every game, this kid just brings it!
Madison Royal-Davis, 5-10 Michigan Crossover: bigtime playmaking guard who is strong in every aspect of her game. She is a bigger guard who can score from the perimeter. Madison plays for 2-time state champions from Toledo Rogers during the winter, and has really blossomed in her game. Good decision maker who can find the open person with solid passing.
Can get to the rim and finish strong. Defensively, she causes problems with her on-ball presence, and can turn it into a good transition game by running the floor.
Tomorrow I will take a look at some of the top 2020s that I saw over the weekend.
