For most of the Ohio basketball players, that means a month to be with their high school teams, as they participate in practices, shootouts, camps, and more opportunities to work together to prepare for a big high school season this coming winter.
This week, I will take a look at some key players who have the potential to open some eyes this coming month. Some of them may be known to you, others are ones who could make themselves known this coming season.
2020
Hannah Beckman, 5-8 Middletown Fenwick- underrated player who has the potential to come up big this season. Excellent defender, active hands and creates turnovers. Runs the floor well, excellent passer, and will finish on the break. Can penetrate to the rim and score.
SaMill Calhoun, 5-5 Middletown- really liked her game this spring, and I look for it to continue when she takes the floor for the Middies next month. Strong aggressive point guard with good handles, moves well without the ball and is a good floor leader. An athletic kid with a high motor.
Kendall Clodfelter Kendall Clodfelter 5'8" | CG Tippecanoe High School | 2020 OH , 5-7 Tippecanoe- drawing interest from several coaches, Clodfelter is a kid who is looking for a great senior season with the Red Devils. Athletic, great in transition, can get to the rim and score. Looks to make her team better, wants to make the great pass, but can score from inside or out.
Staci Greene, 5-9 Chaminade Julienne- one of the best shooters in the region, Staci can break open a zone, she can score off the bounce or on the move. Good leader on the floor, moves well without the ball, Can run in transition
Jasmine Jamiel, 5-8, Wilmington- her contribution will increase this season, as she looks to embrace a bigger role this season. Excellent perimeter shooter, can drive to the rim and score with contact, great first step past the defender. Scrappy, aggressive defender with a nose for the ball.
Abby Jones Abby Jones 5'10" | SF Jonathan Alder High School | 2020 OH , 5-11 Jonathan Alder- her stock has really risen the past few months. Really liked her ability to score from the perimeter, can also put the ball on the floor. Good range out to the arc, can penetrate for the mid-range. Good handles, and can finish in transition. Solid defender, definitely a next-level kid.
Kaitlyn McCrary, 5-4 Northmont- she had a good spring season, and I expect her game to improve with the T-Bolts next season. Quick guard who can create on defense, has solid handles and thrives in the transition game.
