Known for the Warren G. Harding House and Harding Hotel, Marion County was organized in 1824 and named for General Francis “The Swamp Fox” Marion – an officer in the Revolutionary War. In the 2018-2019 HS girls basketball season, Marion County had some outstanding teams and players – a trend that is sure to continue in the future.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Marion County.

An All-Ohio selection and NWCC Player of the Year, Muselin was the largest reason behind Elgin’s fantastic 2018-2019 season. At her size, Muselin can play all over the court – creating mismatches for her team to exploit on the offensive end. A solid ball-handler, Muselin continues to improve and develop into a well-rounded competitor. In addition to her scoring exploits, she will block shots, hit the offensive boards and create scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Briana Outcalt – Ridgedale – 6’0 Post – Class of 2021
Outcalt is a raw forward/post who has a lot of un-tapped potential to dig into over her last two years at Ridgedale. She is right-hand dominant and is not a great shooter, but her length and agility allow her to get lay-ups consistently, while also doing some damage in transition. She blocks her fair share of shots and is a solid rebounder.
Alissa Holler – Pleasant – 5’11 Forward – Class of 2020
Holler is a multi-sport athlete who excels regardless of the season. She was one of Marion County’s top players this past season and will need to step-up even more as Pleasant tries to replace Erika Linder’s production. Alissa is a good rebounder on both ends of the court. She is a solid FT shooter.
Ariyah Douglas is one of the state’s underrated guards in the Class of 2021. (Photo Credit: The Marion Star)Ariyah Douglas – Harding – 5’9 Guard – Class of 2021
Douglas is a dynamic point guard who has shown her all-around game during her first two years of her high school basketball career. She is quick with the basketball and does a majority of her team’s ball-handling against pressure and play-making in half-court sets. She makes a high percentage of her shots from the floor and is an outstanding passer who routinely gets her teammates good looks. Ariyah will also guard the other team’s best player on most nights.
Ally Johnson – River Valley – 5’9 Forward – Class of 2020
Johnson is a top-notch defender who causes all sorts of problems for opponents. She is long and athletic, using that athleticism to block shots consistently when challenged at the rim. Ally also gets a number of deflections and steals, which her team turns into transition buckets. She is at her best offensively when she can make one-dribble moves to the basket. Johnson is a very intriguing college prospect.
