As mentioned before, the GWOC North dissolved and five of those teams went into the Miami Division of the MVL, while Sidney and four teams from the GWOC South have come together to create the Valley Division of the MVL.
On paper, the division is up in the air. Sidney struggled last year, but help is on the horizon. The rest of the division was average at best last season, but I look for new life from these teams with a new start in the MVL this season.
There will be some new faces on the sidelines to coach these girls in the Valley Division, and some good younger talent ready to take center stage and make their presence felt immediately. Let’s take a brief look at the teams in the new Valley Division:
Fairborn- they have a new coach in Brooklyn Pumroy-Summitt who will bring some fresh blood to the bench. She returns talented sophomore Natalie Oktavec, who shined toward the end of last season as a freshman. Khala Powell is recovering from an ACL injury and would have been their top offensive player, and watch out for the improved point guard Jodie Austin.
Sidney- struggled last season, going winless on the season. An impressive freshman this season looks to be Allie Stockton, along with another freshman Lexee Brewer who will contribute right away for the Yellow Jackets. Junior forward Samantha Reynolds returns and she was their top player last year, along with key defending junior Keliyah Marcus. Two sophomores expected to contribute are Cassidy Truesdale and Peyton Wiley. Watch for senior Hallie Truesdale who looks to help.
Stebbins- will need some kids to score, as their top returning scorer averaged under 6 points per game. They do have some returning kids who I expect will step up their game this coming season. Senior Kristine George, juniors Shelbie Morgan, Kennedie Lingg and Haylee Gunter, along with sophomore Kaitlyn Seibel.
West Carrollton- will need some kids to gain some confidence and score for the Pirates. Not much offense returns, but a new season brings new opportunities. Jailyn Seege is their top returning scorer, but will need some players to step up.
Xenia- a new coach brings new enthusiasm for the Buccs this year. Kamea Baker is a junior who had a steady year last season, and they hope to build off a new face on the bench and improve on their one-win season in 2018-19.
