As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Girls Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2021 class
Eveyln Vasquez, 5’5, G, 2021, Kansas City Piper
A guard on the rise who understands her job and plays smart basketball across the boards. She is quick with the ball and can create with it in her hands. She pushes the tempo and is a good passer in transition and can also find room to get her shot off. She’s a strong defensive player and looks to apply heavy pressure.
Mallory Woolston, 5’6, G, 2021, Andover
An impressive guard from Andover who can create shots and get on the board quickly. She has a good shot from distance and can find the right amount of separation. She can create some for herself and gets others involved. She works hard on the defensive end and can tip away passes and swipe away the ball.
Kori Babcock, 5’6, G, 2021, Chanute
A strong player with a solid frame and a high basketball IQ. She shoots well after the catch and is confident from distance in the corner and wing spot. She can handle the ball some and is a good team first player. She looks to be aggressive and competes hard when she’s on the floor.
Sydney Unruh, 5’3, PG, 2021, Great Bend
A smart defensive player and an equally important piece on offense. She can shoot well from distance and has confidence to let it fly with little room. She can make smart passes and looks to push the tempo and keep the team moving forward. She works hard on the defensive end and can come away with several steals per game.
Jaya Esquibel, G, 2021, Lakin
A small guard who has a lot of fire in her game. She is a confident score and can shoot across the floor and behind the three-point line. She makes good decisions with the ball in her hands and operates well as a point guard as she is good at getting the ball inside to her teammates. She’s also good at finishing plays in a way that is all her own.
