I had the chance to attend part of the event on Saturday, and enjoyed watching a lot of quality kids in action. Here is the first of a three-part series this week looking back at some of the players who I thought shined when I watched them play.
Nicole Flock (Ohio Lady Hoopsters Richardson)- saw her in one game, and was impressed with how well she anticipates with the ball. She attacks the rim well, and she has a good ability to finish around the paint. Nicole has good handles and is quick to the ball, moving well to get their offense set. Smart player, hard worker and a kid who has passion for the game.
Avery Thompson (Ohio Quest)- another impressive showing from this talented squad, as they won both of the games that I saw. Avery (pictured above) is a player who I had not seen before, and she showed a good aggressive style of play. She is a long, athletic kid who runs the floor well on offense, and does a good job rebounding in the paint. Can finish at the rim, has a good ceiling to improve her game with some hard work.
Cassidy Dupps (Ohio Quest)- she is player who I have seen before, and she has improved since last summer when I saw her last. Has good handles from her guard spot and plays under control. She is another guard who can attack the rim, and will make an opponent pay if you send her to the free throw line. She anticipates well and shows good on-ball defense.
Abbey Williams (Capital City Comets Banks)- really liked this kids impressive court sense during the one game I got to see her play. Has a nice perimeter shot, and has solid handles. Good intangibles. Solid defender.
Zoey Bent (Dayton Metro Ballard)- she was one of the hardest workers during her game that I saw. Impressive work ethic, ran the floor well and moved well without the ball. Has good potential to continue to improve as an overall player. Good from the perimeter and can make the good pass. Athletic prospect.
