Highland County is home to a number of popular recreational areas, including Rocky Fork State Park, Paint Creek State Park, The Fort Hill State Memorial and The Fallsville Wildlife Area. The hilly county divides the Little Miami and Scioto Rivers. Highland County is home to 5 different school districts and some traditionally-strong high school girls basketball.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Highland County
Kayla Burchett – 5’2 Guard – McClain – Class of 2021
Burchett helped McClain increase their win-total by 10 wins last winter. For her efforts, she was named to the OPSWA DII All-Ohio team, certainly a tremendous honor for a sophomore. The lead guard is a good 3-point shooter, but also does a solid job of using her quick first step to get to the rim – where she can finish either hand. Despite her small stature, she is a good defender.

Samara Cannon plays with a lot of confidence – and rightfully so. Cannon is an explosive scorer, who scores a majority of her points off of the dribble. She has an old-school game, often-times using a jump-stop and two foot finish, whether it be with a legit jumper or an impressive floater/runner package. Samara is a good passer with outstanding court vision. Strong and physically tough, she plays like an ideal combo-guard.
Zoe Fittro – 5’7 Forward – Lynchburg Clay – Class of 2020
Somewhat of a tweener, Fittro comes in the slasher mold. She can knock down the open jumper – even out to 3-point land – if she is open, but is much better as a driver/play-maker. Zoe is an active defender – especially off of the ball – where she creates a lot of turnovers and easy transition baskets for her team. She is a tough kid who averaged double figures during her junior year as a compliment to Peyton Scott.
Karleigh Hopkins – 5’7 Guard – Hillsboro – Class of 2020
Hopkins is great in the open-floor. She has a strong build that helps her effectively play and finish through contact. A reliable 3-point shooter with a quick release, Karleigh shows signs of being a dynamic scorer, but does need to develop a more consistent toolbox when it comes to creating scoring opportunities for herself. She is a solid ball-handler.
