Ohio Summer Showcase Preview – Class of 2020 Part 2

This coming weekend is the first-annual Ohio Summer Showcase at the College of Wooster. 180 of the top players in Ohio will be part of this event which includes skill work from some of the top high school coaches in Ohio, followed by evaluation games. Nearly four dozen college coaches have committed to attend. The event will run in two sessions, 9a-2p for the Classes of 2022/2023 and 3p-8p for the Classes of 2020/2021. Admission to come watch this event is free. Over this week, we will look at some of the top players in each class going into the event, and following the event we will do an event recap on some of the top players. Today a look at the Class of 2020 - here are 5 players to watch. Celina Koncz (Chippewa) - Celina could be the most slept-on 2020 in the state of Ohio. She is a 2-time 2nd-team All-Ohioan and Wayne County Athletic League MVP. She is capable of playing every position on the basketball court and does that for Chippewa. She has dominated division 1 commits in the regular season and state tournament at the HS level, as well as on the exposure circuit for her AAU team. With her size and ability to handle the ball, she is a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses. She is also an outstanding rebounder who competes at a high level on the defensive end. [caption id="attachment_71327" align="alignleft" width="225"] Kerianne Diese is one of the many outstanding guards in the 2020 class at the Ohio Summer Showcase.[/caption] Kerianne Diese (Jackson) - Kerianne is a quiet and unassuming kid with a sweet stroke. She has made some of the biggest shots in Jackson HS history – including one at the buzzer to win the district championship during the 2018 season. Kerianne typically plays PG, but is a more-than-suitable combo-guard, because she is such a good shooter. It’s a lot of fun to watch Kerianne handle the ball and run the show for her teams, especially in Federal League games. Although she is almost always playing against more athletic kids, Kerianne never gets sped up or flustered – she is a great teammate and a tremendous leader. Taylor Leatherman (Wadsworth) - Taylor is an intriguing prospect who has really come into her own in the past few months. She comes from one of Ohio’s top programs at Wadsworth – a program that cranks out quality college basketball players on a yearly basis. She is a playmaker – creating good looks for her teammates quite often. A long athlete with a high motor – Taylor defends the 1-4 positions at an elite level, getting a number of deflections and steals that lead to easy baskets in transition. In addition to her defensive exploits, Taylor shoots over 40% from 3-point land.   Jayden Moore (Margaretta) - Moore is a tweener who uses her impressive strength and athleticism to play effectively at the traditional HS guard and forward positions. As many teams at the collegiate level move towards an era of “position-less basketball”, Moore is a great fit. She can initiate the offense, work on the block against smaller defenders or serve as her team’s primary scorer from an off-guard spot. Jayden is a good rebounder who makes a living on the offensive glass – she is also dynamic in transition attacking the rim when defenses aren’t set to stop her. Jessie Grover (Lucas) - As one of Ohio’s smallest Division IV schools – Lucas is not typically the recruiting capital of the Ohio girls basketball landscape, but college coaches should be fully aware of Jessie Grover. Grover is a 2-time All-Ohioan who has already went well past the 1000 career point mark. Grover, who averaged nearly 20 points and 10 rebounds as a junior, is always one of the strongest and most relentless players on the court. Jessie is relatively unknown, because she has never played in a high-end exposure event, but she is certainly a hidden gym for coaches to watch as she moves forward through her senior year. If Grover can develop a reliable jumper, she is going to be a legitimate player at the next level.
