Today continues a look at some of the top players going into the Ohio Summer Showcase this Sunday at the College of Wooster. A recap with some of the players who performed well will be posted here next week.
Class of 2021
Karli Anker (Akron Manchester) - At the conclusion of her sophomore year, Karli has already nearly reached the 1000 point mark and will probably get to 1800-2000 by the time it is all said and done. She has outplayed girls at her position with D1 offers a number of times now - she plays her best in big games against good players. She is as dynamic off of the pick-and-roll as any PG you will find - she is an elite passer. She is a very good (underrated) athlete and it shows in her rebounding numbers and defensive exploits. I haven't heard or seen a teammate who doesn't love playing with Karli.
Aaliyah Brunny (Parkersburg Catholic WV) - Aaliyah is an all-state player in West Virginia for one of the state’s top small school program at Parkersburg Catholic. Brunny is a tremendous athlete who gets in the paint whenever she wants. She is dynamic in transition – most of her opportunities comes from deflections and steals, where she gets those long arms out in passing lanes. Brunny is also a good rebounder. She is a big-time prospect.
Adison Novosel (Revere) - A legit scorer – Novosel can create a shot in a number of different ways. She is good off of the catch, but can also create with the dribble or on the block. Her finishing package is full – using floaters, runners and rondos very comfortably. With her length, she blocks a number of shots and can also grab double-digit rebounds when she engages herself in that aspect of the game. Her game should translate well to the college level.
Olivia Payne (Green) - Olivia pictured above scored nearly 12 PPG last year as a sophomore in the ultra-competitive Federal League. She is super-athletic and has as bright of a future as anyone. She is the true definition of a "slasher" who needs to improve as a shooter. She is an elite on-ball defender and is in very good physical shape. Payne gets to the rim at a high-rate and is a very good finisher with both hands around the basket.
Grace Mills (Garrettsville Garfield) - Grace has star written all over her. Already a 2-time All-Ohioan after her sophomore season, Grace is on pace to score 1700+ points in her HS career – while seeing a variety of junk defenses. Grace has very good range and is a true jump shooter. Her athleticism allows her to get nearly any shot that she wants throughout a game – but she is at her best when she is attacking and working the mid-range game. Grace still has a ton of untapped potential for a college coach to draw from. She plays 3 different sports in the fall at Garfield (Soccer/Cross Country/Golf) and is also very active for her school in the spring, so it's hard to imagine what she could accomplish when she just plays basketball in college.
