Jenna Smith (Garrettsville Garfield) – Jenna burst onto the scene as a freshman – nearly averaging a double-double while being named to the NE-Inland All-District scene. She is long and athletic, with nice post moves for either hand. Smith does a good job of catching around the high post and making effective 1-dribble moves to create scoring opportunities. She is a good rebounder and solid low-post defender. From the same HS as Northern Kentucky post Grayson Rose, Smith could be farther along as a player than Rose was after her freshman year.
Tai Roberts (Andrews Osborne Academy) – On one of Northeast Ohio’s top small-school teams, Roberts was a rare All-Ohioan during her freshman campaign. She is a quick point guard who has the ability as a scorer to develop into a very productive combo-guard. She is also a good defender who can pick up opposing ball-handlers full-court and pressure them into turnovers. She plays with a bit of a mean streak – the ultimate competitor.
Claudia Pifher (Buckeye Central) – Although her sister Courtney is headed to The University of Rio Grande to continue her basketball career, Claudia (shown above) was the leading scorer for Buckeye Central during her freshman season – as they made another trip to the regional tournament. She is a tremendous 3-point shooter, making nearly 60 trifectas during her initial varsity campaign. The All-Ohioan plays strong on the court and is not afraid to compete against older kids in high-pressure settings.
Abbie Smith (Vincent Warren) – In an era of basketball where a number of players want to play face-up and drift out to the perimeter to shoot 3-pointers, Abbie is a true low-post presence with potential to be dominant. She finishes with both hands around the rim and has an array of solid post moves. She carves out space well and plays with a physical nature that makes her tough to battle for 4 quarters. She has a high motor and is an outstanding rebounder.
Mauria Stanley (Garfield Heights Trinity) – At over 6 feet tall, Stanley is a great athlete. With her long arms and elite leaping ability, she rebounds at a high level. She steps out and shoots the 3 at an impressive rate for someone who gets to the rim with such ease. Mauria can guard multiple positions in the post and on the perimeter. Solid footwork on her post moves.
