Like figuring out your meal plan, what is the quickest way between classes, which gen eds to take first for your major. Well going into her senior year, Kettering Fairmont, Madeline Westbeld probably doesn’t have any of that figured out lol. And that is because she has the daunting task of choosing which college she wants to go to. She has it narrowed down to five from probably the hundreds that offered her offers. And it isn’t the easiest decision she will have. Westbeld has it narrowed down to 5 premier colleges and 5 prestigious women’s college basketball programs.
Her first option is keeping it close to home. 1 of the final 5 is the Ohio State University Buckeyes. The Buckeyes are coming off back to -back NCAA Tournament Appearances including a Sweet 16 this past season. If Westbeld chooses to go there, she will follow in line behind former Fairmont Firebirds Makayla Waterman, who played with Madie’s older sister Kathryn in high school. Option #2 includes the Louisville Cardinals. The SEC team is in one of the best runs in program history with NCAA Tournament success. Making it to the Elite 8 3 out of the last 5 years. If Westbeld decides to go there she will have to compete in a stacked SEC conference. Option #3 will take her all the way to the west coast and as the country song by Jon Pardi mentions it, the southern California way, and trip to UCLA. The Bruins have made the NCAA Tournament each of the last 4 seasons, and won the WNIT Tournament in 2014. If Westbeld wants to come into a team and make a huge difference right away, and possibly start right away. This might be the team that she might want to look heavily at.
Option #4 is the pinnacle of women’s basketball. The Tennessee Volunteers have been the epicenter of college basketball for decades, under the successful leadership of the late Pat Summitt. She grew not just what the program is today, but to what women’s college basketball is to this point. So would I like to see Madeline dawn the orange and white? Growing up and watching basketball my grandparents were die hard Volunteer fans. So to answer the question, yes I would love to see Westbeld in Knoxville. And the final option, and probably the one that will be picked. Is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This one is probably gonna be the hands down favorite because her older sister graduated and played basketball. The Lady Irish have had tremendous success. Winning a championship back in 2017, but also finishing runner up 5 times and at least making it to the final weekend of the tournament every year for the past 10 seasons.
So where do you think the number one ranked player in the Class of 2020 will fall? We will all find out soon enough…
