Last season, Carroll won the North division and Roger Bacon captured the south, with Carroll also advancing to the state final four before falling to the eventual state champions from Toledo Rogers.
It should be another solid year for the teams in the GCL, now all eight teams will battle for the sole league championship.
Alter
After losing their top player and top four scorers to gradation, the Knights will rely on some good younger players to compete in the league. Alter suffered a tough loss when Emma Hansley suffered an ACL injury a month ago during soccer, but they return an improved sophomore Caraline Kernan, sophomore Karlie Romer along with junior Sara Reis along with newcomer junior Haylee Gunter who comes over from Stebbins.
Badin
Shelby Nusbaum returns as a senior for the Rams, as the 6-foot senior will look to get help from a cast of solid players back from last year who will need to increase their production to give Badin a chance to compete this season.
Carroll
The league favorites again this season, as they return four starters and their top player off the bench last season. Senior Julia Keller returns as a key post player, strong around the rim. Allie Stefanek is a solid guard leader, while Ava Lickliter, Sarah Ochs and Megan Leraas all have the capabilities to step up big in any game. Very strong lineup for the Pats.
Chaminade Julienne
All five of the Eagles top players return and look to battle for the league title. Senior Jordyn Varise is a very solid and quick point guard with excellent skills, while senior Staci Greene is a major perimeter threat who is an outstanding floor leader. Courtney Redd is a 6-foot forward who is more than capable of a big night, while their post play is led by Eve Monaghan, a strong physical player.
Fenwick
They also lost some quality players, but returns a pair of solid productive athletes who are capable of putting together a solid season. Hannah Beckman is a 5-7 senior guard, and Emily Adams is a 5-11 senior post player who combines to give the Falcons a very good 1-2 punch. Both players are key to a successful season.
Roger Bacon
This team is loaded again this season, as they return their top four players, all who averaged in double figures. Clarissa Craig is a 6-3 junior, along with 5-11 senior Kelly Brenner, 5-9 junior Kylee Sheppard and 6-0 senior Lyric Harris all are next-level kids and they look to lead the Spartans deep into the tournament.
McNicholas and Purcell Marian both lost a lot of talent, but both have historically been very productive and expect some new faces to lead the way for a competitive season.
