Continue ReadingWinton Woods junior guard LeAsiah Payne is bound to have a breakout season this year for the Warriors. The 5’4 guard has already received interest from multiple NAIA schools and is bound to pick up more interest once the season starts. She should be a difference maker this year and worth watching closely if any NAIA or D3 schools are looking for a solid point guard.
A solid defensive presence, Payne is a nice player on both ends of the floor. Possessing a high basketball IQ and a solid passer, she is able to get teammates the ball while also scoring herself. A strong ball-handler, she controls the pace of the game and keeps collected against defensive pressure. While already a good defender, she wants to continue to improve her footwork and ability to guard high level guards.
“I was told you’re not a true point guard if you can not defend a point guard”.
She has already received offers from Wilberforce and Ohio Christian University. With her emphasis to play defense and improve as well, I think she will continue to attract attention from local schools. Keep an eye on Payne this November.
