After the dust has settled from the July viewing period, there have been a lot of very good players that have committed to colleges and universities from Nebraska. However, there are still a lot of outstanding players that played with club programs in Nebraska that are still looking for the right fit. Today, we take a look at some of the best point and combo guards from Nebraska's club basketball scene that have not announced a commitment from the 2020 class:
Ella Wedergren (All Nebraska Attack/ Omaha Westside High School): A 5'10" combo guard who is probably most suited to play the two, Wedergren had a great summer for ANA, shooting over 54% from the three point line in July while playing on the Under Armour circuit. An outstanding athlete who guard any perimeter position, Ella was a key cog in Westside's 2018 Class A state championship run. Ella averaged almost 13 points a game last year for Westside; expect that number to jump this year. Wedergren already holds multiple Division II offers in hand, including Central Missouri State and Northwest Missouri State.
Ellie Rengstorf (All Nebraska Attack/ Red Oak, Iowa) Rengstorf is a 5'7" perimeter player who can play the one or the two. She's a very good defender who has quick hands and can really attack the ball. A scrappy guard who steps in to fill any role needed for the team to achieve success, she was a key glue player for ANA's success this summer. Expect good things for her this winter.
Emily Richards (Omaha Sports Academy/ Papillion-South High School) Richards is a highly skilled combo guard who can fill in aptly at either perimter position. A tough, hard-nosed player, she brings great energy who, despite her frame and size (5'4"), is a high level competitor who can score in bunches. Emily also has a quick release on her catch and shoot perimeter play.
Hanna Spearman (All Nebraska Attack/ Gretna High School) Another ball hawking combo guard, Spearman is a 5'7" perimeter player who runs the floor very well and gets to the free throw line consistently. Excels in a full court, attacking system, and she is a good shooter who can stretch defenses as she continues to develop her off-the-bounce game. Will be one of the better guards in Class B this winter in Nebraska.
Kylie Morrison (Omaha Sports Academy/ Logan-Magnolia, Iowa) Kylie used her first summer of high level club ball to her advantage, greatly improving her overall game. A pass first point guard who is outstanding at getting a piece of the paint, Morrison is an unselfish distributor who can also shoot it well from the perimeter. A player who went into the summer under the radar, Kylie has definitely increased her stock. Morrison has a good frame and size (5'7") that allows her to get paint touches. Northwestern (Iowa) has showed considerable interest, as has other GPAC schools.
Whitney Brown (Nebraska Lasers/ Northwest (Grand Island) High School) Brown exploded at the state tournament in 2019, leading Northwest to the Class B state championship while playing almost every minute over three games in three days. A natural point guard, she is a complete player who does all the things you want out of a point guard; distributes, shoots, gets into the lane and defends at a very high level. A smaller guard at 5'5", she makes up for this with a tenacious game and competitive spirit. Could be one of the top ten players in the state for 2019-20.
