At 5’5, McCormick likes to play a fast paced game with a lot of ball movement. She is comfortable attacking the basket, but enjoys passing the ball and getting her teammates involved. Despite her size, she likes to get to the basket and finish over bigger defenders.
She is coming off a strong freshman season in which she helped her team finish13-9 overall and win sub-state against Cimarron in the championship. The Beavers went on to compete at the Class 3A state tournament and lost a hard fought game to Norton in the first round. McCormick averaged 9.0 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, and shot 73 percent from the free throw line. She earned Sports in Kansas All State Honorable Mention.
“Being a freshman playing against juniors and seniors every game was definitely an eye opener for me but felt like it helped my game improve,” she says.
McCormick spent the offseason competing for Western Kansas Elite (WKE) and a guest player for Gameball and says the travel schedule has helped prepare her for the upcoming season and perhaps beyond.
“With both of these teams, I played in front of multiple college coaches and saw a high level of talent and competition,” she says. “I felt lucky to have been exposed to that at such a young age. I have been focusing mainly on my ball handling and being able to get my shot off quickly.”
McCormick says her mother, Sarah McCormick, has had the biggest impact on her basketball career to date. Sarah McCormick has been a basketball coach for 17 years.
“Because of that, I have grown up behinds the scenes of basketball,” Brynn McCormick says. “In the locker rooms, practices, watching film, and carrying water bottles on the bench since I was nine. Those past experiences have given me an advantage above other players because I understand the dynamics and mechanics of the game.”
Brynn McCormick says Dallas Wings’ Brooke McCarty-Williams is her favorite player to watch and that she has taken various elements of her game and made them her own.
“She’s a point guard who can handle pressure and see the floor in a way I’ve never seen before,” Brynn McCormick said. “Despite her size, she’s able to handle pressure from all kinds of competitors and I just really admire that.”
While McCormick says she hasn’t received a lot of college attention just yet she has drawn several elite camp invitations.
“Travel ball is what I mostly focus on during the summer and I’m willing to put in the work to get looks in the future,” she says.
