The first half of the clinic ran players through different drills that helped with their agility, ball-handling, shooting, and even proper post entry passing as well as being able to set proper screens.
The second half of the clinic featured scrimmages with players separated by class. There were 46 players in attendance from the classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and even some 2024 and younger. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts from the Class of 2020.
1. Taylor Donaldson – Oaks Christian
Donaldson is a very lethal scorer. Last season as a junior, she had some big scoring performances. She’s a good midrange shooter, and she can also shoot from the three-point line. She’s very quick in transition, and she has an explosive first step off the dribble that enables her to beat her defender to the rim. She can handle the ball in transition, and she has good court vision. Moves well without the ball too.
2. Leigha Harris – Dominguez
Harris is a very versatile forward with guard-like skills and ability. She can start the fast break with a rebound and she handles the ball in transition. She’s a skilled post player with great footwork and good up and under moves to lose her defender and score at the rim. She uses her pivot very well and she draws double-teams in the post. When handling the ball, she can make strong moves off the dribble and get to the rim. Good rebounder who boxes out well.
3. Kennedy Lindsey – Diamond Ranch
Lindsey is very good at moving without the ball in her hands. As a guard, she spends a lot of time on the court with the ball, but when she shares the floor with another lead guard, she’s able to keep herself moving. She’s a very good cutter and is always sneaking along the baseline and ready to catch a pass. With the ball in hand, she uses pump fakes to lose her defender and get into the lane. She has a nice floater too.
4. Jocelyn Ewell – Santa Margarita
Ewell is very talented in the post. She uses her size well to establish good position in the post. Once she gets good post position, she has a couple different moves she uses to finish around defenders. She seals off her defender well when making a move. She has a couple spin moves and a nice drop step to score at the rim. Good hands in the post both offensively and defensively. Runs the floor well.
5. Jorday Holmes – Glendora
Holmes is a solid floor leader. She has good court vision and she can run a team’s offense. She’s always looking for her teammates to get them good looks at the rim. She also plays hard defensively, she contests everything. Scoring wise, she can finish at the rim over defenders. She’s very athletic and can draw contact at the rim. She shoots the ball well from midrange and from the three-point line.
