#8 Emajin McCallop, 5’7″, PG, Bishop Miege, Next Level Eclipse Blue Star – At the end of her freshman year McCallop earned a Eastern Kansas League honorable mention selection. At a recent Miege open gym PGH Kansas’s Clarence Dennis observed that she is a “…clear option at point for the Stags….” He also noted she is one of the fastest on the floor, finished well with both hands, and showed varsity control in ball handling drills.” Playing against stiff competition on the Blue Star circuit this past summer should boost her odds of stepping into the starting point guard position given the guard heavy graduations from last season’s Class 4A state championship team. McCallop has received an offer from Wichita State University.
#10 Brittany Harshaw, 6’0″, F, Andover Central, Kansas United – Harshaw made a substantial impact last season on the 5A Ark Valley Chisholm Trail Division II League Division as a freshman. Following the season she was selected first team all-league while averaging 14.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. How she defends in the post, is able to get a shot off quickly, runs the floor, and is court aware with spacing shows that her basketball IQ is high. Her good hands enable her to catch and finish while going full speed down the lane. Harshaw was a member of the Jaguar 4x400m relay state championship team.
Playing for Kansas United this past summer, Andover Central’s Brittany Harshaw denies the passing lane to a Game Changers’ post player.#26 Maddy Vermetten, 5’11”, F, Valley Heights, Wheat State Elite – Vermetten’s WSE coach described her as “wicked athletic.” A member of a strong freshman class that has her as one of three Mustangs in the top 53. She has the ability to go end to end, outlets off the rebound well to get transition game going, and sees the floor well with the ball in transition. Her good off-ball anticipation makes her a solid steal threat. Valley Heights only lost two players from last season’s fourth place finish team in the tough 2A Twin Valley League.
#37 Grace Dixon, 6’0″, PF, Manhattan, Lady Prospects – While Manhattan lost 6’1″ center, and 6A Kansas Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention selection, Kia Wilson (U. of Nebraska – Omaha) to graduation the Indians will remain a team with capable bigs with Dixon moving up the roster to join returners including 6’2″, senior center Zanaa Cordis. Selected as a pool all-star in June’s Battle at the Border tournament in Kansas City, Dixon is a hard working post player with the ability to score around the basket.
#38 Kaylee Simpson, 5’10”, F, Chase County, KS Dream Team – Chase County was a game away from reaching the state tournament a year ago after tying for the 1A Flint Hills League title. Given the graduation losses of a few top players Simpson should figure prominently in the Bulldogs’s success this season. At the July 2019 Reign the Plains event in Wichita she showed that she moves well without the ball; is smart with how she uses her pivot foot on the wing to create an opportunity to attack the basket; makes good use of her left; and is unafraid of contact on the finish. Her abilities, combined with her size and length, make her an impact player.
