Continue ReadingWe released the 2023 California Rankings this morning and it should be a good conversation piece, remember, we at PGH California will only rank girls we have seen, that means the committee members around California have put eyes on these girls and have actually seen them play. It does nothing for us to put a girl on the list that none of us have seen. With that being said, let’s take a good look at the rankings and see if we are on the money or just plain missed the bus on some of these kids, I believe we are spot on with the majority of the kids we have seen play. The opinion of kids really plays a role in everyone’s decision making and also when you have a dog in the race. Enjoy these opinions and go with it, it will be changing again by February or March after the season is over. Get your stock up and keep working hard, we are out there watching very closely. Again, thanks for the support of PGHCalfornia.
#1 Overall in California – 2023, 6’0, CG, Windward HS, Judea Watkins is the prime young scorer who can take over a game with her skillset and do it from anywhere on the floor with the ability to score from all three levels. She is great in transition, she is acrobatic with the layups and finishes at the rim as well as being the best offensive scorer on the floor for both sides in most games. Her defensive skills are on point, showing she can sit down and defend, this is what makes her an elite player, she is dominant on both sides of the ball for her team. Major upside on this kid, she is a beast literally…
#2 Overall in California – 2023, 6’3, PF/C, La Jolla Country Day HS, Breya Cunningham is the power forward that any coach in the country would love to have on their team and utilize to keep defenses off balance. She is tough, she is high IQ, she is skilled and she has a great body type that is already college-ready. Her work down low is excellent and she is an able shot blocker in the paint, that can run the floor like a gazelle and finish at the rim against the contact.=
#3 Overall in California – 2023, 5’6, PG, Ashley Chea is a dynamic young point guard with the world in her hands playing for Team Taurasi as an 8th grader last season, so it prepared her for battle. She will be a sure thing for her high school, a freshman coming in with tons of elite basketball experience, she will not waiver in my opinion if she is allowed to start for her high school coach. She shoots it well from all three levels and is a pretty good passer, she has some swag about her game and she loves to show it off. Major Upside from this kid…
