Continue ReadingI’ve seen the game shift so many different ways since I became involved right after the turn of the century and I’m talking about this century but a decade ago, I said that social media would have a big impact on the girls side, not in a good way and there were those who doubted me but I’m used to that as well as having that “I told you so” look on my face when just about everything I predicted usually comes true, like calling players D1 or BCS Locks prior to their first middle school game or many other things I’ll save for my up and coming PODCAST, not POTcast because some of this stuff, you have to be on something to believe it. I’m picking 5 players for the first team, I don’t need people voting that don’t know who all of the players are, nor do I have political ties to anyone and leave a #BCSLock player off my list and place kids with no offers at all, that’s one of the problems with having a monopoly, again, the magic of social media
Deyona Gaston2020
Deyona Gaston-6’2 F (Dobie HS) one of the most dominant players in the state, she can jump out of the gym but what really impresses me about her game is the countless hours she’s put in to adding a variety of things, like the three-ball as well as taking defenders off the dribble. Her length and elevation can create problems in the paint and her soft touch while facing the basket puts her in that “nightmare to defend category. She recently committed to Mississippi State and she is going create even more problems there
2021
Jada MaloneJada Malone-6’4 F/P (The Village School) I did not call her a BCS Lock or either a D1 Lock in elementary school because I wasn’t sure which way she was heading yet one of the happiest and saddest moments I’ve had in a split second of being involved in this is when she told me “Mr. Colson, you’re going to have to buy your Girls Scout Cookies from someone else, I’m playing ball and playing she has as she can play multiple positions, defend inside and outside and that three ball is looking pretty darn good
Rori Harmon-5’7 PG (Cy Creek) what can I say that I didn’t say after seeing her in the 4th or 5th grade, well she’s even better than I envisioned and she’s added that “fire” to her game where she toys with defenders and sets them up nicely. Long, mid, attacking but her ball-handling and sbility to see the floor are some of the main reasons she continues to impress. When you help lead your team to state, as a freshman, that’s huge and she has a chance to head back this season
Rori Harmon & Kyndall HunterKyndall Hunter-5’8 Combo (Cy Creek) when someone sent me the post-season list and this young lady was ommited I thought I had been in a POTcast but in the era of novelty basketball, anything is possible. She has an explosive first step, explosive jumper, explosive finisher and plays passing lane while also continuously plays passing lane. She and Harmon form one of the best backcourts in the nation and is one of the best that has come from the area during my “viewing period”
2022
Ashlon Jackson-6’1 G (Hardin-Jefferson) add her to the “helped lead team to state as a freshman” category and the ironic part about it, I wrote about her in the 3rd grade so she joins AJ Alix and my own daughter, Sydney Colson as the youngest players I knew that would play in college. Jackson is smooth as silk, she plays with a smile and is steadily smiling after dropping 30 footers. Yes, her range is unlimited but she also has shown she can play all 5 positions well
