A group of young ladies have an extra incentive to be back out on the floor, as they missed significant time last season, or in the off season due to the ever-familiar ACL injury. More prevalent in girls, it is an injury that will sideline an athlete for anywhere around 6+ months, with full recovery not expected to happen for at least a year.
Those players who are returning this year after missing significant time are ready to get out there and prove themselves again. The Dayton area has several who are excited to get back out on the court at some point this season.
Tiffany McAfee- Dayton Christian
After missing her entire freshman season due to the injury, McAfee is back and ready to go. She has recovered very well from her injury, and actually joined the Dayton Boat Club and has rowed all year to help the healing and strengthening process. The guard will be on the court this week. She is a skilled athlete who can score from inside and out and will be an impact with DC this season.
Makenzee Maschino- Covington
Maschino will likely be out until at least December, but she is making excellent progress. She has passed all the tests and is ahead of schedule right now. Her next followup is in November which is just under six month out from injury, and because the meniscus was also injured they expected a bit longer. But she is doing really well and hopes to be back at some point this season.
Blair Kindrick- Vandalia Butler
After making the move into the Butler district, Kindrick now focuses on getting back out there, and it could happen sooner rather than later. She told me she is doing pretty much everything except for contact at this time, and she is hoping to be cleared in the next month or so for contact. Blair is an excellent shooter and solid defender.
Audrey Cable- Franklin Monroe
After missing last season, Audrey looks for a big senior season and has returned to action following her recovery. She was back on the court in the summer with her team, and is among the top guards in the Cross County Conference. Excellent handles and floor leader.
Khala Powell- Fairborn
She was injured toward the end of last season, and is hoping to be back in January, or maybe a bit sooner depending on her progress. She is a key player in the Fairborn offense, and will provide a spark when she returns to action later in the season.
