Although most look at sections, conferences, etc. these are my top players that represent Sherburne County as Nate’s Preseason All-County Team. This may be one of the best lists of underclassmen in the state.
Lydia Hagstrom, Forward, 2021, Zimmerman
-With Alyssa Daugherty graduated, look for Hagstrom to have a much larger role with the Thunder this season. I’m looking for her to be a 12 point, 7 rebound type player in this 2019-2020 season. This Thunder team played above 500. in the Granite Ridge, but were 2-11 in non-conference games last year.
Caela Tighe, Forward, 2021, Big Lake
-Tighe has the potential to be a complete package as a forward for Big Lake. She’s is a good outside shooter, she rebounds very strongly and can block shots with her 6’0 frame. Big Lake should produce a stronger record this year, as they were 14-12 last season.
Johanna Langbehn, Center, 2021, Elk River
-Langbehn is the returning top scorer for the Elks and should play an even bigger role this season for Elk River. Langbehn is also a great shot blocker and can stretch the court if needed on a steal/fast break.
Julia Bengston, Guard, 2020, Becker
-Bengston is coming off a great junior year where she averaged just over 18 ppg. This Becker Bulldogs team runs really deep from top to bottom, so I look forward to seeing if they can make another run at a state championship as Bengston looks to lead that charge.
Mia Huberty, Guard, 2021, Big Lake
-Huberty is the engine that drives the Big Lake train. A multi-position player, Mia has a great dribble drive to the basket, can make threes in bunches and knows how to come through in the clutch. She averaged 12 points per game last season.
Lydia Haack, Guard, 2020, Elk River
-Haack certainly isn’t the tallest player on the court, but like Huberty, she has an excellent three-point shot as well. The Elks will have Haack leading the backcourt while Johanna Longbehn leads the frontcourt. The Elks played a very tough February schedule last year and will need to beat the 4-5 record they accumulated when the games really count.
Adeline Kent, Guard, 2022, Becker
-Kent and Bengston are key contributors to one of the deepest backcourts in my opinion the state of Minnesota in 3A. Watching Kent in the fall league, without many of her key Bulldogs makes me think that this team has the tools to get back to Williams Arena. Kent is a solid performer who shoots very well and can drive to the bucket with authority.
