At 5’5 point guard, Kierscht is a strong, all-around scorer who has the ability to put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. She can knock down outside shots, has a quick release and has the quickness and moves to create separation, including a smooth step back she uses to get her outside shots off over bigger defenders. She averaged 14.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game for the Mustangs as a freshman.
A year ago, Kierscht was named second-team All Ark Valley Chisholm Trail and was first-team all-county. She says Salina Central didn’t quite put together the season they were hoping for but learned a lot throughout the season.
“We’re looking forward to learning from last year’s mistakes to make next season a successful one,” she said. “Personally I think I had a pretty successful freshman season. Looking back on last year, I wish I would have been a better leader, but the good thing is I can take what I’ve learned and become a better one for this upcoming season.”
Kierscht says the experience of playing for Ohlde Elite has helped prepare her for the upcoming season as she traveled to tournaments in Dallas, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Washington DC.
“Summer ball is by far my favorite time of the year,” she said. “For one, you get to play the game of basketball all summer long but also the experiences you gain as well are important too. The amount of exposure to college coaches is crazy and it’s fun to get to showcase your talents.
“As far as getting better at my game goes, I’m in the gym everyday, mainly working on getting stronger and finishing, as well as continuing to work on my shot and different moves I can use to expand my game.”
Kierscht says her dad has had the biggest influence on her basketball career to date.
“He introduced me to the game at a very young age and I immediately fell in love with it and my love for the game has not stopped,” she says. “It’s easy saying my dad is my biggest inspiration when it comes to basketball. He’ll stop whatever he’s doing to take me to the gym to work on my game. He knows a lot about the game so his input to help me better my game important to me.”
Kierscht has received letters from multiple schools and have had calls with several coaches. Sge is currently scheduling visits to South Dakota, Abilene Christian and UMKC and has drawn interest from Wichita state, southern Illinois, Missouri State and others.
