Bethel hopes to compete in the upper half of the Cross County Conference, as their time in that league is almost done. They will be changing leagues in the very near future. Greeneview is the defending league champions in the South Division of the Ohio Heritage Conference, and will have some stiff competition from the likes of Catholic Central, Greenon and Cedarville if they are wanting to repeat at champs this season.
Guard heavy- Bethel was very guard heavy again this season. I was impressed with their backcourt of Kenna Gray Kenna Gray 5'7" | CG Tipp City Bethel | 2021 State OH and Liv Reittinger. Gray is a hard nosed leader who can do a lot to help her team win. She controls the offense, can score either from the perimeter or on the drive, and has good handles. Reittinger showed me improvement from last year, as her defense has gotten stronger, and she hit a couple of big threes in the quarter where Bethel easily handled the Rams.
The Sylvie Show- What Greeneview doesn’t want to happen is Sylvie Sonneman having to do everything this season. She averaged over 15 per game last year, and the next two scorers both graduated. A couple of younger players in Ellie Snyder and Rachel Strickle will have to turn their attention to becoming more of a threat, and I think they will both be up to the challenge.
Track shoes- Both teams appeared to want to push the ball and score in transition. Both had kids who could do that, as both squads showed some success north and south on the break.
Low numbers- It is so discouraging to see so many teams struggle to fill out two complete rosters. Bethel only had 15 kids in the program, and there are programs in the area with less than that.
