He put together showcase games for all ages from sixth graders to seniors and it went off without a hitch in our opinion. We showed up after a nice sunny days ride up from Los Angeles and we got there right before the Freshman game was about to happen, we strapped in at the scorer table and watched some good basketball coming out of San Diego, California. First up, we witnessed what San Diego had to offer from the Freshman class and it was pretty good, here are some names that impressed us why we watched:
2023, 5’2, PG, Bonita Vista HS, Alyssa Alvarado was the Queen of the Court in the Freshman game for the Creme of the County 2019 and she performed very well for the our staff. Alyssa is a scrappy point guard with a nice skill set, liked her driving glass work, she showed it on many plays on the floor yesterday as we watched her, kids now a days need to use the backboard more. Her stroke from the three line was good, she knocked down about 3 three pointers as we watched and showed us she was a really good player.
2023, 5’3, PG, The Bishops School, Aaliyah Stanton was the MVP in the Freshman game for the Creme of the County 2019 and she was a great performer from yesterday as well. Aaliyah is quick, strong and has a nice handle for her skill set, she is a volume shooter and knows how to get her buckets on the floor. She knocked down three three-pointers on the floor yesterday as well, but also showed she could take it to the rim and finish thru contact. Her basketball IQ is still developing, but she will be a major piece for The Bishops School for years to come, expect Littleton numbers from this kid, I see them working on it already….
Others who Stood out to Us:
2023, 5’3, SG, Westview HS, Desiree White was a scrappy lead guard with some nice moves to the rim, still working on her finishing ability thru contact, but very aggressive to the basket.
2023, 5’9, SF, El Capitan HS, Kaylee Cole showed us some crafty drives to the bucket, she is a lefty that is unorthodox in her approach, but it is very effective against the defenders yesterday as we watch. She got the rim and finished, she shot the midrange and shot the a three ball, but her game was about putting it on the floor and beating her defender.
