This weekend is the annual Journey to the Tourney basketball event held at Lakota West High School in Cincinnati. The event is hosted by the Ohio Girls Basketball Report and will bring several of Ohio’s top teams together over a two-day period to tip off the basketball season.
There are eight games ready to go on Saturday, November 23 starting at 9 a.m. Below is the schedule and info on games to be played on the first day of the event.
9:00am- Valley View vs Cincinnati Ursuline: Valley View led by [player_tooltip player_id="32528" first="Aubrey" last="Stupp"], 5-11 senior headed to IPFW, along with juniors Abigail Dickson and Lauren Legate and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="32608" first="Claire" last="Henson"]. Ursuline brings back senior Lauren Klaire and talented sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="92540" first="Jenna" last="Van Schaik"].
10:30am- Kettering Fairmont vs Roger Bacon: Fairmont is led by 6-3 senior [player_tooltip player_id="89318" first="Madeline" last="Westbeld"], the #1 ranked PGH Ohio 2020 player, headed to Notre Dame. [player_tooltip player_id="89331" first="Madison" last="Bartley"], 6-4 senior is also going to play at Belmont. Roger Bacon and Dayton Carroll will battle for the GCL Coed title, and brings back a lot of weapons. [player_tooltip player_id="91067" first="Clarissa" last="Craig"] is a 6-3 junior, and is joined by senior Kelly Brenner, junior [player_tooltip player_id="91065" first="Kylee" last="Sheppard"] and senior Lyric Harris.
12:00pm- Princeton vs Berlin Hiland: 6-5 sophomore Kyla Oldacre leads the way for a Vikings squad hoping to compete in the GMC this season. Senior Ashley Davis is their leading scorer returner, senior Willow White, junior [player_tooltip player_id="91071" first="Madison" last="Roshelle"] and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="32620" first="Tandra" last="Smoot"] will be key players. An exciting Bowling Green commit [player_tooltip player_id="91075" first="Zoe" last="Miller"] is a 5-11 junior leading the way for Hiland. [player_tooltip player_id="91113" first="Brynn" last="Mullet"] returns as a 5-7 junior guard along with fellow junior [player_tooltip player_id="91139" first="Morgan" last="Yoder"].
1:30pm- Mercy McAuley vs Solon: Senior Alexa Fleming returns after leading the GGCL in shooting percentage last year but she will get plenty of help. Senior Alexandria Smith also returns along with Radford signee Ashley Tudor. Solon brings in [player_tooltip player_id="91068" first="Hailey" last="Weaver"], a 6-foot junior ranked #14 in Ohio by PGH Ohio in the 21 class.
3:00pm- Centerville vs Newark: Two of the top players in Ohio in their class lead the way for Centerville, as junior [player_tooltip player_id="32562" first="Amy" last="Velasco"] and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="32611" first="Cotie" last="McMahon"]<span style="font-size: 10pt"><strong> </strong></span>form a very difficult duo to defend. Newark brings in [player_tooltip player_id="32567" first="Emma" last="Shumate"], ranked #13 in PGH Ohio as a junior. Also to watch for Newark is junior [player_tooltip player_id="91109" first="Peyton" last="Lunsford"].
4:30pm- Huber Heights Wayne vs Loveland: Wayne returns the state’s top 2021 in Bree Hall, along with Bowling Green signee [player_tooltip player_id="89333" first="Nyla" last="Hampton"], along with several more returning players and two newcomers from Northmont and Beavercreek. Jillian Hayes is a 6-2 senior leader for Loveland, along with 5-10 senior [player_tooltip player_id="89266" first="Kate" last="Garry"].
6:00pm- Mount Notre Dame vs New Hope (MD): the Ohio Division 1 state champs are back for more, and it all starts here. [player_tooltip player_id="32600" first="KK" last="Bransford"] is ranked the PGH Ohio #1 2022 in Ohio, and will be joined by junior Laila Phelia, senior [player_tooltip player_id="89321" first="Makira" last="Cook"] and senior Grace Centrulla. New Hope Academy is ranked #1 in the country by the USA Today heading in the season.
7:30pm- Lakota West vs Hamilton Heights (TN): the #2 2020 player in Ohio Navaeh Dean, a 6-2 post will be a difficult player to defend, but she is not alone. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="32606" first="Chance" last="Gray"] is ranked #4 in Ohio in the 2022 class. Hamilton Heights heads into the season ranked #2 in the country.
