At 5’7, Unruh can play either guard spot and takes pride in doing whatever her team needs in the moment. She scored 292 points last season and averaged to 13.9 points per game. She has scored 496 points over her two years of high school. She also recorded 35 assists, 13 blocks, and 102 rebounds and was named All Conference First Team for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and honorable mention all state.
After going 8-13 last season, the Lady Demons return several key players and expectations are high for the upcoming season.
“Given how young our team was compared to other schools I would say we competed very well with everyone,” Unruh said. “My expectations for this upcoming season is to compete for WAC tittle against the previous WAC champs who have returned most of their players as well as other good WAC teams. Also making it to the state tournament because I really think our team will be bigger and stronger this year than we were last year.”
Unruh spent the offseason competing with Game All and says the experience helped prepare her for the upcoming season and perhaps beyond.
“Summer ball was a whole new experience for me,” she says. “I saw some really good competition and learned to become a more physical player. The speed of the game was much quicker then school ball and I had to step up in order to keep up.”
Unruh says the biggest influence on her basketball career to date has been her dad.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for everything he has taught me about basketball,” she said. “He’s the reason I started playing basketball at such a young age. He pushes me to get better every season and not settle on what I did the season before.”
Unruh has heard from Newman University in Wichita after she attended their Elite basketball camp during the summer.
