As we enter the 2019/2020 high school basketball season in Kansas, we at Prep Hoops will preview Kansas City Area schools. Giving you details on key players, season expectations and more. Our first stop takes us to Olathe, Kansas, where we take a look at first year head coach Alonzo Williams and the Olathe North Lady Eagles. After a 16-6 overall record and finishing 2nd in the Sunflower Conference in 2018-19, North will look to continue building on the progress made last season.
Players to watch
LeLe Love, Guard/Forward, Junior, (2020) #2 Ranked in our PGH Kansas Class of 2020
Photo Cred by:BBWSUSA.comGeorgia Tech Commit and returning 1st Team All Sunflower performer will lead ON. Love, the 6’1 super versatile athlete had a great junior season averaging 14pts, 6rbs, 3ast, 3stls. This season she’ll not only be looked upon to perform on the court but, also to help this talented group of underclassmen as they continue to build off what was started in 2018-2019.
Sania Copeland, Guard, Sophomore, (2022)
The returning starter, is a silky smooth lefty with the ability to stretch the defense with her shooting range. Copeland is coming off a freshman campaign where she averaged 10pts, 2ast, 2stl. With a busy spring and summer playing on the UAA Circuit with KC Lady Run 16U, she looks to come back even stronger in her sophomore season.
Ashlynn Alloway, Forward, Sophomore (2022)
Ashlynn, in red on defenseReturning key contributor off the bench last year, Ashlynn will look to solidify a role as a starter in 2019/20. The very athletic 5’10 forward gave opposing teams fits with her ability to guard on the ball and non-stop motor on the court. Ashlynn has spent time preparing for the school season by playing with MO Phenom this summer, as well as working with a couple of the top skill development trainers in the Kansas City area. With these key development resources, she will look to be more of a two-way player in 2019-2020.
Saniya Simmons, Guard, Sophomore (2022)
Simmons is a new face to the team this year. A transfer from Piper High school, where she helped them make a state title run in 2018/2019. A natural athlete, who is a great on the ball defender. Saniya’s quickness allows her to get where she wants on the floor. Has a good handle which helps allow her to create for her teammates and herself. Adding her to the roster should help the Eagles become even stronger on both ends.
Team Goals for Olathe North Eagles This Season
“Getting better day by day, becoming more disciplined as a team, winning Sunflower, getting back to state and make a run for the title,” are some keys goals Coach Williams and his team will be working toward this coming season.”
