Some are varsity starters other are part of a dynamic backcourt and some are just showing off. Here’s a freshman report half of the season for Texas’ finest freshman.
Kennedi Johnson
The freshman upstart flashed on the scene after not playing for a major team in a while. She rose her profile showing all the natural skills she has to run a team. If you’re in the running for a guard with an outside shot, quick as lightning, and a strong passing acumen then you should see more of her film.
Taylor Haggan
Mobility, size, strength are just a few things that are all a part of the package for this young lady. Where else can you a freshman post player to a rebound wave offense the guards and run a fast break for themselves and make the right play with her head up? Under every slab of marble is a masterpiece and you don’t have to chisel too far to find Haggan.
RyLee Grays
Gray’s been one of my favorite prospects since the summer. I watched her at the Jr. NBA qualifier in Dallas and you could hear the whispers about how special she would become. Now 6 months from that time she continues to inch closer and closer to that ceiling. A long rim protector who runs the floor every possession. She’s raw but when you look at all of those physical tools and teach her the basics high majors will be in her living just as often as an extended family.
Kyla McBride
McBride has a special build. 5-11 with a plus wingspan playing the wing and post position. She’s raw but shows flashes of having the athleticism and coordination to be a serious threat with the ball in her hands. A real rim protector who can hit open shots from 15 feet out.
Tory Servier
This post will cause issues for opponents over the next four seasons. Servier stands 6-4 with a long enough wingspan to nearly touch the net while standing. We could be looking at one of North Texas’ most prolific shot blockers over the next couple of years. The defensive stalwart moves well on offense too. Another high-end prospect to watch in the Lone Star State.
Amarachi Kimpson
Kimpson’s one of the more developed guards I’ve seen regardless of age this season. A quick score first guard with a hair-trigger. When the ball is in her hand, she’s a step ahead of the defense and sees the floor well. Combine the scoring instincts with a stellar passer and we have someone Little Elm can rest their hat on for a few years.
