Torie Bass, 2021, 5-4, G, Fountain-Fort Carson
Fountain-Fort Carson is off to a 6-0 start and Bass leads the Trojans in scoring with 14.7 points per game. The dynamic guard is also averaging 4.7 rebounds, four assists and 3.7 steals while shooting 33 percent from the field and 40 percent (12 for 30) from 3-point range.
Bass is a small guard but has great instincts and court vision. She can score but more often is looking to set up teammates with accurate and timely passes that frequently lead to points or fouls. On defense, Bass has quick feet on the ball and great anticipation when it comes to tipped passes in the half court.
Aryannah McClain, 2021, 5-3, G, Aurora Central
McClain is another small guard that packs a real punch when it comes to scoring the basketball. Through the early portion of the season, the Trojans junior is averaging a team-leading 19 points a game. Despite her small stature, McClain is also grabbing 6.4 boards a night to go with 2.2 steals at the defensive end. McClain is shooting around 30 percent from 3-point range.
Kaydee Sims, 2021, 5-10, G/F, Weld Central
Sims apparently isn’t fooling around this season. The Rebels have gotten off to an 8-2 start to the winter and largely because Sims has been scoring and rebounding in bunches. Averaging 19.6 points and 8.2 boards, Sims is shooting 41 percent from the field and has even begun to shoot the three-ball more often in Weld Central’s last couple of games, going 3 for 6 from long range.
At the defensive end, Sims is also averaging four steals a night. The junior has been aggressive, getting to the free-throw line with regularity and shooting 72 percent (54 for 75) once she gets there. She has four double-doubles already in 10 games. Sims is a solid ball handler and can score with her midrange jump shot, and does a lot of extra damage with her ability to finish through contact around the basket.
Monique Delatorre, 2021, 5-5, G, Thornton
Alongside senior teammate Shamahra Henderson, who is averaging over 21 points a night, Delatorre averaged 19.6 points through five games to give Thronton a devastating one-two punch. But that’s not all. Delatorre is also leading the Trojans with 5.4 assists and is getting her hands on 4.8 steals, both of which place her among the state leaders.
In a 65-9 win over Kennedy on Dec. 6, Delatorre flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 33 points, nine rebounds and nine steals.
Trinity Grambusch
Trinity Grambusch, 2021, 5-11, G, Smoky Hill
The Smoky Hill Buffaloes have gotten off to a slow 2-6 start to the new campaign but that hasn’t necessarily been the case for Grambusch. Through her first four games, Grambusch was leading the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game while also averaging five rebounds and 2.3 steals a night.
Through four games played, Grambusch is averaging 29 percent (6 for 21) from behind the 3-point arc. Grambusch is an athletic tweener who can play multiple positions and impact the game from all over the floor.
Grambusch plays club for the Colorado Lady Lightning.
