Focusing on players in Northeast Ohio, today we took at a look at seniors. It’s never too late to make a splash and we at PGH feel as if this group of kids has done just that during the opening act of their final campaign of HS.
Lexi Lemire – GlenOak
It’s no secret to basketball fans across the state of Ohio – GlenOak lost some talented players to graduation and transfers. However, the Golden Eagles are still sitting here at 7-1 and the departure of those other players has opened up opportunities for other kids to make some noise. One of those players is combo guard Lexi Lemire (pictured above: photo credit – Canton Rep). A smooth ball-handler who can score with both hands in a number of ways, Lexi has a quick release with a pure stroke. She has led GlenOak in scoring for a number of games this year – the increased role has benefited her as much as anyone.
Chantel Barnett – Cleveland Central Catholic
Simply put, Chantel Barnett knows how to score the basketball. The 5’7 lead guard is averaging nearly 22 PPG for C.C.C, while also defending at a high level on the perimeter, Chantel shoots a high percentage, over 45% from the field and nearly 37% from 3-point range. She had 30 points in a tough loss to a quality Andrews Osborne Academy team, while adding 28 in a win over Notre-Dame Cathedral Latin, 27 in wins over Maple Heights and Lake Catholic and 25 in a pair of wins against Lutheran East and Lutheran West.
Sarah Kozik – Black River
It hasn’t been the most ideal 4 years for Kozik and her teammates at Black River. The program has strongly traditionally and the past few years haven’t necessarily changed that. With that being said, a coaching change (long-time area assistant Greg Vogelsong has taken over) has injected some life into the Lady Pirates. Kozik is averaging 14 points and 5 assists from her PG spot – her team is winning more too.
Emily Seboe – Loudonville
Although it probably shouldn’t be a surprise, based off of her career numbers and AAU exploits entering her senior year – Emily Seboe‘s numbers have stunned many. The Huntington University commit has been one of the top players in the state of Ohio. Seboe is averaging 26 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists per night, while shooting over 50% from the floor and 80% from the FT line – despite seeing junk defenses every night.
A’mari Wheatley – Warrensville Heights
Wheatley has shot the ball as well as anyone The 5’7 guard is burning up the nets – at over 50% from 3. She is averaging 17 points per game, but certainly is not just a scorer – she hands out a handful of assists each game and also provides physicality and toughness on the defensive end of the floor, usually guarding one of the top perimeter players for the opposition.
