Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several guards in the senior class who are raising their profile this season in the St. Louis area.
Quincy Erickson, 6’0, G, 2020, Hermann
An impressive guard with terrific height, length and ball handling skills. Erickson makes noise on both sides of the ball and shows great leadership and a mind for the offensive side of the floor. She’s averaging 19 points per game through seven games and is hitting 75 percent from the free throw line as well. Also a strong rebounder (averaging seven per game) on both sides of the floor. A player who can catch and finish under the basket and can secure the board and kick off a transition opportunity.
Keisha Watkins, 5’8, G, 2020, Northwest Academy
Watkins is averaging over 21 points per game in her first four games. Watkins is struggling at the free throw line, but she makes strong plays in half court settings as she is shooting well from the floor. She’s a strong rebounder for her size (averaging over seven per game) and is a sneaky defender who looks to swipe the ball and look for transition plays to capitalize on.
Jordan Peete, 5’6, G, 2020, Ladue
Peete is a smart player who is quick with the ball and shows a lot of upside as a defender. She moves her feet well and plays with passion and overall strength and grit. That said, Peete looks just as sharp on the offensive side of the floor. She is averaging nearly 19 points and adds 3.75 steals per game and shows the ability to make plays in full court situations. Peete adds a terrific 83 (26-31) percent from the free throw line and shows solid leadership. Peete put together a strong offseason running with the St. Louis Eagles during the summer.
Brooke Hilton, 5’10, G, 2020, Parkway Central
A nice guard/wing player who can operate as a scoring option as well as control the tempo. She has a strong frame at 5’10 and has the speed and strength needed to play some inside and make things happen around the basket. Also a versatile defender who can see time on the perimeter and hold strong the high and low post. Hilton is averaging nearly 12 points per game and is shooting 71 percent from the free throw line. She is also average 5.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
Kelsey Mack, 5’7, G, 2020, Pattonville
Mack is a strong guard who can hit shots from outside with terrific accuracy. She’s currently at 52 percent from 3-point range, hitting 10-19 through six games. Even though she’s a guard, she’s averaging a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game and 3.5 steals per game. Mack is averaging 16 points per game and is connecting from the free throw line as well, shooting for 73 percent from the line hitting 22-30. A productive guard who can do a bit of everything on the floor.
