This game was always close, but Becker had the lead for most of it and made some key free throws at the end to put the icing on the cake for the Bulldogs to get a key win in the Mississippi 8 Conference a conference they are new to. These are my five takeaways from this one.
Mikayla Aumer Mikayla Aumer 5'9" | CG Cambridge-Isanti | 2022 State MN Lived Up to the Hype
Mikayla Aumer Mikayla Aumer 5'9" | CG Cambridge-Isanti | 2022 State MN (2022) the “hardest working prospect” in Minnesota lived up to that title last night with her solid play. She finished her night 18 points but that wasn’t all I was impressed about. Her agility with the basketball, her ability to drive, and physicality on defense were all reasons why I left Becker High School impressed. She has the intangibles to be a great guard in the class of 2022.
The Most Versatile 2021 Forward I’ve Watched This Season
Megan Gamble Megan Gamble 5'10" | SF Becker | 2021 State MN (2021) continues to impress me for the Bulldogs in the two games I’ve watched this year. A lot of forwards can rebound, hound the post and but Gamble brings much more to her game as a forward. Her mobility is what impresses me, ability to shoot from anywhere, and of course her rebounding. As a 5’11 forward, she is certainly a scholarship level prospect for the Bulldogs from Becker.
The Beaver Commits Did Work for the Bluejackets
Jana Swanson Jana Swanson 6'0" | PF Cambridge-Isanti | 2020 State MN (2020) and Amme Sheforgen Amme Sheforgen 5'9" | CG Cambridge-Isanti | 2020 State MN (2020) combined for 37 of the Blue Jackets 73 points and were both impressive. The guard class for the Bluejackets is really deep and Sheforgen is a solid player that can shoot, drive the bucket and rebound as she plays a taller guard than most. As for Swanson, she is one of the top rebounding forwards I’ve watched this year. Her double-double last night was key to sticking with the speedy Becker Bulldogs as they just edged out the Bluejackets by a slim margin.
Free Throws Win Ball Games
Julia Bengston (2021) gets my “clutch free throws award” from last night. With Becker leading by a slim margin at the end of the game, Bengston swooshed her free throws when it counted most to put the “icing on the cake” to their conference win in the Mississippi 8. Bengston also is a solid ball-handler that’s not afraid to shoot it from mid-range or drive the bucket.
Co-Game MVPs: Courtney Nuest Courtney Nuest 5'8" | CG Becker | 2021 State MN , Becker and Jana Swanson Jana Swanson 6'0" | PF Cambridge-Isanti | 2020 State MN , Cambridge-Isanti
We’ll need a vote on Twitter to decide this one!
Courtney Nuest Courtney Nuest 5'8" | CG Becker | 2021 State MN (2021) 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 team points (stl, ast, blk, etc.)
Nuest played well outside her 2021 prospect ranking spot at #80 last night and led in scoring for the Bulldogs. She hit a big three early but was also key for the Bulldogs all over the floor.
Jana Swanson Jana Swanson 6'0" | PF Cambridge-Isanti | 2020 State MN (2020) 17 points, 10 rebounds, 2 team points (stl, ast, block, etc.)
Swanson was a major contributor to the Bluejackets last night. She put the effort in forward to be dominant in their frontcourt play. Was it enough to lock in game MVP?
