Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several 2022 forwards.
Tatum Boettjer, 6’2, F/C, 2022, Derby
A new player to keep your eyes on from Derby, Biettjer is yet another tall and long prospect who can contribute as a rebounder and scoring option inside and around the paint. She is improving your speed and transition play and looks to listen to her coach an adjuster game and keep those around her involved. Biettjer is averaging 5.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She can also contest shots well and can come away with the ball in certain situations. She’s shooting a high percentage at 51 percent.
Nijaree Canady, 6’0, F, 2022, Topeka
One of the most dominant players in the state, Canady brings a terrific combination of size, length and two-way productivity to the floor. She has good height at 6’0 but her dominant play seems to add a few inches to the towering forward in the paint. She is a terrific rebounder on both ends of the floor and is great at cleaning up the offensive glass and finishing plays and getting to the free throw line. Canady is a scoring talent as well, a post player who can score on the high and low post. She can back opponents down and score over the top but has also shown improvement with her handles and creativity.
Taedyn Gray, 6’2, F, 2022, Shawnee Mission West
Gray is a smart young forward with great size, length and the ability to connect from the floor in a variety of ways. She has a big motor and terrific athleticism and physical attributes that can lead to next level play. Gray makes good plays on the defensive side of the floor and cna block shots and come away with the ball. Gray can back down opponents and can finish shots around the glass and can also connect from the free throw line.
Chaliscia Samilton, 5’11, C, 2022, Salina Central
Another young stand out for Central who brings great height, length and the ability to make plays around the glass. Samilton is a nice defensive rebounder who can force her way inside and score and dominate the glass. She looks to block shots and contest shots wherever she can. She’s averaging 8.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and one block per game and shows a lot of potential as a post player.
Hampton Williams, 5’10, F, 2022, Salina Central
A well-built forward who has good height, length and overall physicality for her age and position. Williams is an active forward who can play well in transition and half court settings. She can handle herself in the low and high post as both a defender and scoring option for Central. She’s averaging 10 points, 7.6 rebounds, two assists, two steals and close to one block a game. Williams is shooting 44 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line. A player who doesn’t take plays off and finds ways to stay in the face of opponents as a defender.
