We all know how good this Detroit Edison team is. We've seen them play high level teams from the Chicago area all the way back up I-94 to Detroit. There is some debate as to where they fall on a national scale. The ESPNW 25 Power Rankings has had them in the top 3 every week this season and as high as number 1. I can tell you this much, there's not a team in the country that they can't beat. But why? Why are they considered one of the best?
Well, here's 5 reasons that Detroit Edison is the best team in the country:

Star Power

Detroit Edison has top 10 players in the country from the class of 2020, 2021, and 2022. With stars like Gabby Elliott, Damiya Hagemann, and Ruby Whitehorn, the pieces are in place for current and future greatness.

Selflessness

With all these stars, how can they coexist? Because there's a built in aura from the program that caring about each other and the team will lead to future individual success and accolades. Simply put, the players care more about winning than they do stats. Shaulana Wagner (2020, G) is a perfect example. She could go to possibly any team and average 17-20 points per game, but she represents Detroit Edison with grit, hustle, and energy. And it's led to a future as a Division 1 college basketball player.

Variety Of Skills

Detroit Edison has players at all positions that bring many different things to the table. Gabby Elliott is a dynamic athlete off the wing. Damiya Hagemann is an electric playmaker and passer. Shaulana Wagner is a stopper on D. Daija Tyson is a waterbug type guard with elite quickness and handles. Ruby Whitehorn is a physical scorer. Combine these things, and so many more, and you have greatness.

Experience

These players have been there and done that. For example, Gabby Elliott has been a four year starter and captain. They have 8 seniors on their roster and many of them have the experience and knowledge to be coaches on the floor.

They Just WIN

Winning is the ultimate I told you so, and Detroit Edison just keeps winning. They've won 3 straight state championships and are the favorite to win another. They would be just the second girls basketball program to ever win 4 straight.
