Representing the Mid Columbia Conference, (MCC) Kamiakin had to take on North Central of the Greater Spokane League (GSL). Neither team has deep playoff ambitions with a lot of young and inexperienced players in the game, but loser out scenarios always make for some competitive battles down to the wire.
Kamiakin hung on to a lead throughout the game winning 50-39, but North Central did show a lot of fight to the very end. Kamiakin improved their overall record to 5-16 on the year and North Central finished their season at 7-14 overall. This matchup was not flooded with prospects like some of the other games I have covered throughout the season, but there was still some prospective future college players that did stand out from start to finish.
2021 5’8 CG Regan Clark was very impressive for Kamiakin. She had to sit out a chunk of the season due to injury, but her return gives Kamiakin some much needed help in the backcourt. Clark hit two threes, made 5/6 free throws and scored in the paint and midrange to round out her game-high 23 points. She really showed a diverse offensive repertoire that can translate to a 4-year level school. Last June, Clark mentioned that she would like to play at a school in the Northwest. Some GNAC schools could find themselves a nice pickup if she decides Division 2 is the best level for her. *Feature image
2023 5’9 PG Nikole Thomas also had some great moments for Kamiakin. The lefty guard played every minute from start to finish as she has done almost the entire season. She is a real threat in transition and has a next-level gear that will suit her well throughout the rest of her high school career and beyond. North Central had a difficult time stopping her from getting to her strong hand and finishing or drawing fouls in the painted area. Thomas’ shooting form is improving and that is a key area that I have been watching for in her development. She finished with 12 points on the night and helped Kamiakin live to see another day.
2021 5’10 SF Sara Patrick was a standout player for North Central. She has solid size on the wing and displayed confidence in shooting the 3 ball. Her ability to slash and put some pressure on the defense was impressive at times, but I would have liked to see her put her imprint on the game even more versus showing glimpses. Overall, if she can stay aggressive scoring wise, she could develop into a smaller college prospect.
Kamiakin will take on Kennewick at their place this Friday (2/14) for a District semi-final game. Kamiakin will return 2021 5’6 F Armani Davis who has scored 17 points per game for the Braves. She sat out the North Central game due to concussion protocol. Kamiakin will need all of the scoring and defense they can get for their matchup with MCC foe Kennewick who has defeated Kamiakin by 20+ points in two earlier matchups.
