Cypress HS vs. Ayala HS
@Cypress HS – 7PM
Last night, we witnessed two teams square off to decide who would play in the first round of the CIFSS 3AA Division against Santa Monica on February 13, 2020 at 7pm. We walked into the gym and the atmosphere was calm and cool, game commenced and we enjoyed the competition. Cypress jumped out to 6-0 lead in the first quarter and it looked as if they would run away with the game, but in the last few minutes of the quarter, Ayala was able to score and take the lead 9-8. It continued on into the second quarter, Ayala was able to keep control of the game going into the halftime mark with a score of 28-26. The game had its ups and downs, but the two teams made for a great matchup and the game ended with a score of Ayala 61, Cypress 52.
Players Who Impressed:
2021, 5’7, SG, Ayala HS, Ari Gonzales is a crafty guard that knew how to make shots on the floor, she handled the ball well, she shot it well and was a great defender for her team. She is quick and athletic and ran the floor like a gazelle. Finished with 21 points on the night.
2021, 5’7, SG, Ayala HS, Emma Lazaro is a bomber, she knocked down shots from everywhere on the floor, she handled the ball well, she passed with consistency and she is a leader on her team. This kid is quite the player, she kept her team in the game from the tip, she is a sniper and a bonefide shooter on the floor. Finished with 23 points on the night.
2020, 5’11, SF, Cypress HS, Lilly Roberts was a monster on the court, she was physically gifted, she could handle the ball for her size and was not afraid to take the ball and attack the rim. She did not show a jump shot, but she attacked the rim with vengeance and finished thru contact. We were impressed with her ball skills for her size and body type. Finished with 15 points on the night.
2020, 5’4, PG, Cypress HS, Ilyana Caceres was a crafty point guard with some great ball skills as well, she shot the midrange and three, she got to the rim with success, but we loved her defensive intensity on the floor. This kid did some good things on the floor for her team. Finished with 15 points on the night.
