It’s the game I’ve been waiting all year for! Finally it has arrived and I am pumped to say the least! This Thursday, the #1 team in 5A takes on the #1 team in 6A. It’s going to be good!
Let’s take a deeper look into the backcourt and front court matchups that we should see during the game.
<u>Valley Vista Back-Court:</u>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jennah-isai/">Jennah Isai</a> 5’10 2022 G</b>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/sophie-martinez/">Sophie Martinez</a> 5’6 2020 G</b>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/alanis-delgado/">Alanis Delgado</a> 5’5 2021 G</b>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/olivia-arvallo/">Olivia Arvallo</a> 5’3 2023 G</b>
<u>Millennium Back-Court: </u>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jasmine-singleton/">Jasmine Singleton</a> 5’7 2020 G</b>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/trayanna-crisp/">Trayanna Crisp</a> 5’8 2022 G </b>
<b>Amoret Maxwell 5’10 2021 G</b>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/mia-amundsen/">Mia Amundsen</a> 5’5 2023 G</b>
Looking at the guard match-ups on paper, I think Millennium has a pretty solid edge in the backcourt. I think this is where Millennium will do a lot of their damage. I know for Millennium, Singleton, Crisp, and Maxwell, all get big minutes and they can all 3 play at a high level. For Valley Vista, Isai, Delgado, and Martinez play a ton. Isai is the only backcourt player I see that will play D1 in this lineup. Delgado and Martinez are probably NAIA/JUCO players. Which is totally fine, speaking as a JUCO assistant coach, however in this matchup, I think I give the edge to Millennium’s backcourt. I didn’t mention either of the team’s 2023 guards because I am unsure of how much they will play in this high level game. However, they can both play and could be X-Factors for their respective teams.
<u>Valley Vista Front-Court:</u>
<strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/marisa-davis-jones/">Marisa Davis-Jones</a> 6’1 2021 F</strong>
<strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/saniyah-neverson/">Saniyah Neverson</a> 6’0 2022 F</strong>
<strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/madison-magee/">Madison Magee</a> 6’1 2021 F</strong>
<u>Millennium Front-Court:</u>
<b><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/ali-zelaya/">Ali Zelaya</a> 6’4 2020 F</b>
<b>Imani Algeria 5’9 2020 F</b>
<b>Reece Grimsley 6’1 2021 F </b>
The front court is where I think Valley will dominate. They have a ton of size and athleticism in their front court. There are only a handful of people in state that can run in transition with <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/marisa-davis-jones/">Marisa Davis-Jones</a>. Furthermore, Neverson and Magee can contribute a ton and I think the overall size and athleticism advantage puts VV over the top for me concerning this front court matchup. Of course, <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/ali-zelaya/">Ali Zelaya</a> is an amazing player and has turned in a great season. I think she will continue to do what she’s been doing, I am more concerned with the matchups between Neverson/Magee vs Algeria/Grimsley.
Of course, this is all on paper and who knows how each team will game plan for the other so take everything with a grain of salt. Just speaking matchups on paper, I would give the edge to Millennium in the backcourt and give the edge to Valley Vista in the front court.
This should make for quite the interesting game. I fully expect it to be close and within a few points for the majority of the game. I don’t really have a prediction for his game, I just want a highly competitive/intense game, almost playoff like atmosphere!
I think the game will be ultimately decided by which dynamic duo can outplay the other. In one corner, we have the younger duo of <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/marisa-davis-jones/">Marisa Davis-Jones</a> and <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jennah-isai/">Jennah Isai</a>. In the the corner, we have the senior duo of <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/ali-zelaya/">Ali Zelaya</a> and <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jasmine-singleton/">Jasmine Singleton</a>. Who will come out on top? We’ll find out Thursday!
