There is just one game left in what has been an exciting Morris County Tournament. Top-seeded Montville has cruised their way through the bracket and will face No. 2 Chatham on Friday night.
Montville began action in round one with a 44-34 victory over Mendham. They followed up that win with double-digit victories over Morristown and Villa Walsh. They will not face the second-seed in the bracket. Chatham cruised as well. They were round one winners 53-28 over Hanover Park. Chatham followed that up with a blowout win over Morris Knolls and a 40-28 win over Randolph in the semi-finals.
Montville has not lost a game yet. They are a perfect 23-0 on the season. They are led by two stars in Bella Vito and Emma Wax. Vito began the tournament with back-to-back 18-point performances. She also grabbed 10 rebounds in the win over Mendham. Wax is Montville’s leading scorer with 17.1 points per game. She has led the way to the finals with 15 points against Mendham, 19 against Morristown, and a game-high 22 points against Villa Walsh.
Chatham is 20-4 on the season with two head-to-head losses already against Montville. They lost both games by a combined 11 points. Maddie Hartnett has scored in double-figures in every game this season. She finished with 15 points and eight rebounds in the first meeting with Montville. Hartnett is an elite shooter. She has hit 78 three’s this season along with 64 free throws. Tess Ford and Shannon Donohoe have also been effective on the offensive end.
Chatham is not as deep as Montville. There are three legitimate threats on Montville while Hartnett handles most of the work for Chatham. Montville has yet to lose a game this season so it will take a perfect game to beat them. If there is one team in Morris County that can beat them, it is Chatham. This is the dream matchup in the county and it will be a great atmosphere on Friday night.
