Senior | 5’7 G | Cuba City
Helping lead her team to a successful season last year for Cuba City is Kiera Holzemer. She has been a four year Varsity girls basketball player and has been an asset each season. The 5’7 senior guard has continued to develop her game and really stepped it up this season. She is averaging 11.7 points, 5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. A true senior leader for Cuba City, Holzemer will be a huge factor in how their team does during playoffs. Kiera Holzemer is beyond athletic. A super dynamic athlete who has competed in three sports throughout her time at Cuba City. She participates in volleyball, track and basketball. She’s quick and has a good eye for the game which comes from her ability to adapt to different styles of play. Her conditioning is amazing as she runs the floor so well. It is clear that her experience in being a multi-sport athlete has improved her leadership skills and teamwork.
Watching Holzemer play she is a clear floor general for her team. She sets up the offense, commands intensity on defense and communicates from the bench. She does it all for Cuba City and it shows in the succes she has had in the program. Holzemer is super competitive and plays every possession like it’s her last. A true workhorse, Holzemer has hustle that is unlike any player I’ve seen. She’s an exciting player to watch. It is so rare to see a guard at 5’7 have the strength and grit underneath the basket that she has; and lead a team in rebounding.
Kiera Holzemer has put up great numbers each year she’s played with Cuba City. Her stat line thisseason however, was beyond impressive. Holzemer entered her senior season with an abundance of confidence. I watched her attack the rim more, go for more steals and improve her perimeter shooting. After the first game of the year against Richland Center, she had 13 points and had 7 rebounds, it was clear she was on a mission. The season continued and her numbers stayed consistent with multiple standout games. A smart player with a very high IQ, Holzemer knows when she needs to step up and score for her team. In a tough victory over Riverdale, she totaled 19 points, 10 rebounds and went 7-7 from the free-throw line. Holzemer also dished out a season-high 7 assists in the win. She continued to come up clutch in victories down the stretch. In a win over Boscobel she dropped 17 points on 7-11 shooting. In her most recent victory over Riverdale she scored a season-high 20 points and had 9 rebounds. Holzemer was the clear MVP in this victory and created unmatched momentum going into playoffs.
Leading up to her senior campaign she was a key player in her team’s success. As a freshman she averaged 10.5 points per game. During her sophomore year she average 12.6 and her junior year an impressive 10.8 points per game. Holzmer has a quick jumper and an impressive amount of dribble drive moves to the basket. She runs so well in transition and sees a lot of points off of that. On February 11th in a game against Fennimore, Holzmer hit her 1000th point of her basketball career. She had 7 points and 3 rebounds in the win. Holzmer is a versatile guard with extreme composure on the floor. She is certainly a player to watch during playoff action.
