It is not often that a team can succeed when it is built around inexperience. However, the Girls’ basketball team from Sparta High School has defied the odds and have relied on a group of four freshman to lead their team. Each of the freshman is a season long starter and key contributor. The Spartans have a promising future with this quartet.

Ally Sweeney – Point Guard
There have only been three games all season where the freshman lead guard has not had multiple assists. With so many scoring options on the team, they don’t always need someone to distribute the ball for them to get their points. Sweeney though does a great job of distributing and keeping all of her teammates involved. If you give her any space or relax defensively, Sweeney can also put the ball in the bucket herself.
Brynn McCurry – Center
Brynn has the combination of size and skill that make her a mismatch whether in the post or putting the ball on the floor. The 6 foot freshman is a monster on the boards. She is averaging 9.5 boards a game. In over half of the teams’ games, McCurry has pulled down double digit rebounds. As of this writing she currently has a 5 game double digit rebound streak going. Once she grabs an offensive rebound there is a high likelihood that ball is going right back in and in the hoop.
Bailey Chapman – Guard
When you have a strong ball handler and an athletic big, the best compliment is an outside threat. That is a big element of what Chapman brings to the Spartans. It is almost as though opposing teams overlook her because there are other threats on the court, but very quickly teams remember that you cannot leave her open for a moment. The freshman has knocked down 38 three point shots on the season. Bailey is also a shutdown defender, often taking on the responsibility of denying the top scorer on the team.
Mason Munier – Forward
The freshman forward is the do a little bit of everything type player that every successful team needs. There is no single stat that will jump out at you. There is a sense of consistency that typically you do not get from a freshman. Munier does not need to score to positively impact her team. She can rebound, she can pass, she will get a handful of steals, and can get to the foul line.
