No. 1 Westfield has made their way through the bracket and it looking for another title in the county. Gov. Livingston will make an appearance as the No. 7 seed.
Gov. Livingston will look to complete the trifecta. That means they are looking to take down the top-three seeds in the tournament in consecutive games. It began with a 42-27 victory over No. 2 New Providence in the quarterfinals. They held New Providence to just 27 points. In the semi-finals, they took down No. 3 Union Catholic 36-31. They will not have a chance to beat No. 1 Westfield for the championship. Skylar Dowling dominated Union Catholic with 26 points. She has been the team’s leading scorer by a large margin this season.
Westfield will not be an easy out. They have won 15 in a row including their three wins in the tournament. Their run began with a 59-30 win over Dayton in round one. They continued to win another double-digit game against Johnson in the quarters. Westfield was challenged in the semi-finals when they faced Oak Knoll. Caroline Dwyer led the way for Westfield with 12 points in a 40-36 victory. Chloe Kreusser grabbed 13 rebounds in the win.
At the end of the day, Westfield might be too much for Gov. Livingston. They are the clear-cut top-seed in the county and have been all season long. They have a deep team outside of Dwyer and Kreusser. Freshman Paige Gorczyca and Annie Ryan have been big x-factors in their first season at Westfield. Faith Dobosiewicz has been one of the leading scorers for the team this season. If Gov. Livingston can continue their dominance on the defensive end, they will be able to hang around and maybe steal one at the end. If not, Westfield will be able to end their Cinderella run and crown themselves as the beasts in the Union County.
