The Kansas 5A state championships were short lived in Kansas as the Kansas High School Activities Association announced on Thursday the remaining state tournament games will not be played following a single quarterfinal round of play.
However, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out at the event, with a look here at several senior guards.
To recap the quarterfinal scores, McPherson (1) beat Basehor-Linwood (8), 59-44; Aquinas (4) beats Maize South (5), 62-35; Andover Central (2) beat De Soto (7), 61-52; and Topeka-Seaman (3) beat Maize (6), 54-44.
[player_tooltip player_id="123522" first="Kassidy" last="Beam"], 5’7, G, 2021, McPherson
A nice scoring option for McPherson who can connect from 3-point range and inside. She is quick with the ball in her hands and shows good awareness and the ability to create on the open floor and when defenders are playing tight, physical defense. She is a good passer and a good perimeter defender. Beam ended the game against Basehor-Linwood with 14 points.
Raigan Kramer, 5’4, G, 2021, Seaman
Another junior player who can make plays and defend the ball. Kramer has the ability to shoot from 3 and can make a splash early when she’s feeling comfortable offensively. She is aggressive and intelligent and looks to make plays wherever she can.
[player_tooltip player_id="123510" first="Jaden" last="Newfarmer"], 5’8, G, 2021, Andover Central
A junior guard who has great vision, good strength and a strong IQ. Newfarmer can score from distance and the mid-range area but she is more or a facilitator and rebounder and defensive presence. Newfarmer is a terrific defender and is great at keeping opponents on their toes and can get steals using physicality, timing and anticipation.
[player_tooltip player_id="123493" first="Madison" last="Skelton"], 5’8, G, 2021, Aquinas
An elite 3-point shooter who can find her rhythm and score in back to back situations when she has her shot dialed in. Skeleton is a strong overall junior guard who can create some with her dribble, facilitate well and feed the ball to the low post. She has a nice shot for herself but he’s unselfish and is good at making extra passes and playing strong defense and collapsing on the ball. Skelton ended the game 10 points.
[player_tooltip player_id="123502" first="Bailey" last="Wilborn"], 5’8, G, 2021, Andover Central
A nice guard who can connect from 3-point range. Wilborn can do a little bit of everything as she looks to pass, rebound in forced turnovers. That said she is a strong scorer who had a terrific junior season averaging 14.7 points per game. She can create with her dribble and looks to score around the glass when she can and was consistent throughout the game.
