Below is a list of players who were impact defenders for their teams this season and will be returning next season for more!
Bailey Butler Bailey Butler 5'7" | PG Black Hawk | 2021 State WI | Jr | Black Hawk | PG
The talented junior who I’ve converted many times this season. She’s an impact player on each end of the floor. Butler knows how to score the basketball and has an explosive attack at the basket. She averaged 15.3 points per game this season. Talented beyond the arc, Butler made 58 three point baskets in her junior campaign. Butler is one of the scrappiest defenders I’ve seen this season. She’s so athletic and is rarely seen tired on the floor. Leading her team in steals, the Black Hawk standout averaged 6.9 steals per game. In a win over Monticello, Butler grabbed a season-high 13 steals. Butler is committed to UW Green Bay.
Julianna Ouimette Julianna Ouimette 5'9" | CG Lakeland | 2023 State WI | Fr | Lakeland | PG
A high scoring point guard who plays the game with patience and composure. She has a quick drive to the basket and a mid range specialist. Ouitmette averaged 21.4 points per game this season. She has great speed and footwork on defense. She averaged 7.9 steals per game. In a game against Northland Pines, the freshman grabbed 10 steals.
Brooke Lechleitner | Soph | Lake Holcombe | F
Lechleitner is a powerful forward with great size and skill. She’s difficult to guard and has added some impressive handles to her game. The leading scorer on her squad, she averaged 17.4 points per game. On the other end of the floor, the standout averaged 6.2 steals per game. She’s long and has a good eye for tipping the ball away. In a game against Birchwood, Lechleitner grabbed 10 rebounds for her team.
Karissa Schaal | Jr | Gillett | G
The dynamic guard for Gillett had a huge defensive season. She’s a great hustler with a lot of speed. She beats her defender to the spot on transition and times her steals so well. Schaal is a triple threat for her team. She led the team in scoring and is super crafty at attacking the basket. The junior averaged 17.8 points per game. Schaal will also attempt the three point shot if open, she made 26 this season. A great rebounder for Gillett, she averaged 6.9 boards per game. Schaal pushes the ball in transition after she steals. She averaged 5.0 steals per game with 120 on the season.
Mia Morel Mia Morel 5'7" | PG Madison Memorial | 2021 State WI | Jr | Madison Memorial | PG
The top ranked point guard is going to be the impact player for her team next season. Morel suffered an injury mid season that ended her junior campaign. However, in the games prior she showed how impressive she was on both ends of the court. Morel was a consistent scorer for her team, putting up big numbers each night. The standout averaged 15.7 points per game before her injury. In a game against Janesville Parker, she dropped a season-high 25 points. On the defensive end, Morel is simply just scrappy. She dives for loose balls and plays 100% until the whistle. Morel averaged 4.4 steals per game. In a game against a tough Madison East squad, Morel grabbed a season-high 11 steals.
