Below is a list of players who were selected as First Team All Conference in the Capitol South. Leading the conference was Marshall- the team finished with a 10-0 conference record and 21-5 record. Following behind them was Belleville with a 5-5 conference record and 14-10 overall.
Anna Lutz Anna Lutz 6'1" | PF Marshall | 2021 State WI | Jr | Marshall
Lutz was chosen as the Player of the Year in the Capitol South conference. The junior helped lead her team to an undefeated conference record. A gifted athlete for Marshall, Lutz led her team in both scoring and in rebounding. The University of Milwaukee commit is strong in the paint and is a beast mid range. She averaged 23 points per game this season. Developing a shot on the perimeter, Lutz made 22 three point shots for Marshall. In a game against New Glarus, Lutz went off for a season-high 34 points. A rebounding specialist as well, Lutz does a great job tracking down the shot. She also sees multiple points off rebound put backs. The Player of the Year averaged 9.4 boards per game.
Laura Nickel Laura Nickel 6'0" | PF Marshall | 2021 State WI | Jr | Marshall
Nickel is an impressive overall player for Marshall. The junior impacts the game in multiple ways. Leading her team in assists, Nickel has crafty court vision. She works well with Lutz, creating space to make the perfect pass. This season she averaged 3.5 assists per game. Nickel is a lightning quick defender who uses her footwork to grab multiple steals. With over 60 steals on the season, Nickel proved why she should be First Team. An offensive threat as well, she averaged 15.6 points per game, second on her team. In a game against Waterloo, the Marshall standout dropped a season-high 28 points.
Jaylynn Benson | Jr | New Glarus
Benson led her team this season in scoring with 17.7 points per game. At 5’7, Benson does a great job of using her size to finish strong in the lane. She has a quick first step that has her flying by defenders. She has a great feel for the game and understands her shot selection well. Benson has developed her mid range game, and is often seen choosing that over a layup against contact. In a close win against conference rival Cambridge, Benson scored a season-high 33 points.
Ashlee Adler | Sr | Wisconsin Heights
The senior led her team in scoring this season. Adler averaged 8.9 points per game and was incredibly skilled at attacking the basket. She’s a gifted athlete who has a tremendous basketball IQ. She cuts well without the basketball and does a great job getting her teammates involved. A great floor general as well, Adler has the court vision to make herself and teammates successful. This season Adler scored a season-high 19 points in a victory over Waterloo.
Mayah Holzhueter | Soph | Cambridge
The lone sophomore on the list proved this season she is more than worthy of a First Team selection. Holzhueter led her team in both scoring and rebounding this season. The 5’10 forward does a great job of creating contact in the post and using her size to score over the defense. A primarily inside scoring threat, Holzhueter runs the floor well in transition and can finish on the go. If left open, she will knock down the three point basket. In a win against Palmyra- Eagle, the sophomore scored a season-high 31 points. In a conference matchup against New Glarus she scored 26 points in the win. A fierce defender as well, Holzhueter impacts the game with her rebounding. She’s strong under the basket and does a great job keeping the ball high.
