While the coaches cannot get out for the next several months, we will continue to give you some of the top players from across the Buckeye State, as the Around Ohio series continues here on PGH Ohio. For the next few days, we will continue to look at some kids from Northeast Ohio in various classes who are expected to shine whenever we do get back out on the court, and next season.
Laura McCoy, 5-9 2023 Labrae
Laura is an athletic guard who cases problems for the opposition with her long arms and pressure defense. She is at her best in the transition game. One of her strongest assets is her passing game with improving court vision. Laura has a high ceiling for the future and should become one that will continue to improve her game with constant effort and work.
Abby Henegar, 5-8 2023 Doylestown Chippewa
Coming from a traditionally rich program, Abby is coming back from injury from earlier last season and came on strong down the stretch. She plays the game much older than a freshman. She is active around the rim as a rebounder. Abby is a good shooter and makes plays off the dribble for her teammates, as well as herself. Watch for her stock to continue to rise.
Kelsey Wolfe, 5-7 2021 Waynedale
Kelsey has great anticipation to the ball on defense and reads the play well with good court vision. Can play in transition and finish at the rim. Good handles, not afraid to slash and score against bigger kids. Can play through contact. Moves well off of screens and is a good catch-and-shooter player, with very deep range. Does a good job of knowing where to put the ball ahead of the play.
Laney Murphy, 5-8 2021 Waynedale
Heady player, who knows where to be on the floor. Has the ability to slash into the paint and score, plays under control. Like her teammate Kelsey, she is another player with good range on her shot. Makes good decisions with the ball. Can score all around the arc. Good basketball IQ, continuing to mature and strengthen her game.
[player_tooltip player_id="159373" first="Bailey" last="Shusta"], 5-5 2022 Norton
One thing about Bailey is that she is a tremendous on-ball defender. Playing the point, her assist/turnover ratio was solid and she has excellent court vision at both ends of the floor. She averaged just over 10 points, 4 assists and 5 steals per game and was the Metro Division Player of the Year in the Portage Trail Conference.
