A team just scratching the surface is MAS. A talented squad stacked with young players who have a ton of experience playing at a high level. Each one of these players are tremendous on their own but have come together to improve off each other and win games. Playing in an independent conference, MAS competes against top teams from all over. The team has been known for their up-tempo style of play and ability to break the scoreboard each night.
Leading the team in scoring this season is sophomore Tonia Williams. She also leads in assists with 9 total assists per game. Following her is forward standout Nakiyah Hurst. The team is such a fun one to watch as each night a different player shines. This year the team made it to the regional finals before falling to a top Racine Lutheran team. Below are a list of the top 5 players on the team and the impact they have to the game.
Toniah Williams | 5’5 G | Sophomore
A scrappy guard who is super fun to watch, Williams out works everybody. She hustles for every loose ball and is extremely quick. Williams is a bouncy guard who can score anywhere on the court. This season she averaged 22.8 points per game for MAS. In a win over Milwaukee Hamilton, the sophomore dropped a season-high 38 points.
Lalani Ellis | 5’7 G | Freshman
Currently holding college interest from both DePaul and Milwaukee, Ellis is a player on the rise in her class. She made a huge impact immediately for MAS. She averaged 17.8 points per game and became the floor general for her squad. Ellis has a nose for the rim and has multiple crafty moves to get there. In a win over Milwaukee Vincent she finished with 29 points.
Beautiful Waheed | 5’6 G | Freshman
Another athletic guard who runs the floor well. She can create a shot for herself on the perimeter and is super effective mid range. She can handle the ball as well and is just scratching the surface of what she can produce offensively. This season she averaged 18.4 points per game for her team. In a game against Saint Mary Catholic, Waheed scored a season-high 28 points. She is already receiving interest from DePaul.
Nakiyah Hurst | 5’11 F | Sophomore
Hurst has been a breakout start for her team the past two seasons. She’s a long forward who can play inside and out. She is super athletic and has a high basketball IQ. She gets up and down the court well and is super efficient in a pick and pop situation. Hurst averaged 19.6 points per game for her team and 8.5 rebounds. She currently holds offers from DePaul, Milwaukee, Tennessee State and Vanderbilt. In a game against Brown Deer this season she finished with 45 points for her team while shooting 73% from the floor.
Taseria Lewis | 5’7 G | Sophomore
A key role player for MAS, Lewis knows how to impact the game in her own ways. She is a great communicator on the floor and on the bench. She understands how to get her teammates open and sets nice hard screens. She can knock down a basket when her team needs her to. In a game against Milwaukee Marshall, she scored a season-high 13 points.
