Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Sara Reid Sara Reid 5'10" | PF Central City | 2022 State IA – F – Central City
There is plenty of reason for optimism around the Central City program, and much of that has to do with sophomore Sara Reid Sara Reid 5'10" | PF Central City | 2022 State IA .
Reid started all 23 games last year for the team, leading them in scoring at 13.6 per game. She made 46 percent of her field goals and was also a 76 percent shooter from the charity stripe.
To go along with her 312 total points, Reid also had 166 rebounds, 59 assists, 37 steals and 12 blocks.
Katy Stephens Katy Stephens 5'10" | PF Burlington Notre Dame | 2022 State IA – F – Burlington Notre Dame
Along with freshman Gabby Deery, Burlington Notre Dame will have a sound foundation to build around moving forward with sophomore Katy Stephens Katy Stephens 5'10" | PF Burlington Notre Dame | 2022 State IA .
Stephens was the leading scorer at just under 13 points per game, attempting a team-high 300 field goals. She also had 174 rebounds, 48 steals, 33 assists and 11 blocked shots.
On the year, Stephens attempted 42 three-pointers, a number likely to go up with the graduation of three seniors who hoisted up over 350.
Lilley Isenhour – Prince of Peace
Sophomore Lilley Isenhour helped Prince of Peace finish the season above .500 with 13 wins total.
Isenhour was one of five underclassmen starters for the Irish, finishing with 257 points, which ranked second on the team.
She also had 269 rebounds, which was first for Prince of Peace, to go along with 43 steals, 20 assists and 10 blocks. Isenhour made almost 43 percent of her field goals on the year.
Esther Hughes – G – Hillcrest Academy
It was a tough season on the hardwood for Hillcrest Academy, but that was not the fault of sophomore Esther Hughes.
Hughes, a guard, was second on the young team with 221 total points. She also added 96 rebounds, 41 steals, 30 assists and chipped in six blocked shots.
Look for improvement from Hughes as her percentages go up from both inside the paint and the 3-point line.
Kasey Chown – G – Lone Tree
Lone Tree finished with 13 wins before coming up short vs. Burlington Notre Dame in the postseason.
Guard Kasey Chown was a vital cog in the machine, finishing with 186 points, 192 rebounds, 34 steals, 28 assists and 16 blocked shots.
Chown made 47 percent of her field goals and was also a 64 percent shooter from the free throw line on the year, adding in seven made 3-pointers to stretch the defense.
