As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed.
Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="63613" first="Lauren" last="Wilson"] - F - Springville</strong>
Springville came up just one win short of returning to the Class 1A state tournament, ending the year with 20 wins and a regional runner-up finish.
Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="63613" first="Lauren" last="Wilson"] led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging almost 17 points a night with 9.4 boards. She shot 49 percent from the field and 33 percent from the 3-point line.
Wilson showed her versatility on the court, adding almost four assists, 3.5 blocks and two steals a night.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="163325" first="Alexis" last="Houge"] - Collins-Maxwell</strong>
One of the top softball players in the state, [player_tooltip player_id="163325" first="Alexis" last="Houge"] showed she is a multi-sport standout with a solid basketball campaign this past winter for Collins-Maxwell.
Houge scored 277 points, which ranked second on the team, adding in 98 rebounds, 57 steals and 48 assists.
She had no trouble scoring from inside the 3-point line, shooting almost 48 percent, but will likely look to improve her long-range game after making just 10 triples.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="129083" first="Morgan" last="Nachazel"] - F - Springville</strong>
Another young piece to the puzzle at Springville, sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="129083" first="Morgan" last="Nachazel"] finished the year second on the team with 361 points scored.
Nachazel led the Orioles with 49 made 3-pointers, shooting 41 percent from the field and 38 percent from long-range. She also knocked down 65 percent of her free throws, adding 121 rebounds, 59 assists and 45 steals.
<strong>Mia Ayers - G - English Valleys</strong>
English Valleys put together a winning season and reached the regional quarterfinal before coming up short.
Sophomore Mia Ayers led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 11 points and seven boards a night. She also added two assists and two steals per game for the Bears.
<strong>Alyssa Tegeler - Belle Plaine</strong>
Alyssa Tegeler made an impact on the court for Belle Plaine this past winter.
The sophomore led the team with 216 points and 213 rebounds, shooting 46 percent from the floor. Tegeler also had 39 blocks, 39 steals and 33 assists, which ranked among the team leaders in all three categories.
